Hi everyone,
First timer here, I have my first booking appointment a week today & im wondering what to expect.
Will they take blood, do a pregnancy test, what other tests are involved ?
Will they know my medical history already ?

It's just a lot of questions about yours and partners medical history. They'll do blood pressure and urine sample but they won't do a pregnancy test.

Congratulations!

Just to add that they'll probably do a breath test for CO2. As PP said it'll be a ton of questions about you, and an opportunity for you to ask questions too Smile

I’ve had two “first” booking appointments 😂 one with my community midwife and one at the hospital, because I’ve chosen to deliver at a hospital outside of my trust.

Community Midwife: urine sample (she did dip a pregnancy test in it), lots of boring questions, gave me leaflets and prescription exemption form to fill in.

Hospital: urine sample, boring medical questions, blood test, CO2 test.

Oh, I was weighed and had blood pressure taken at both too!

They'll do blood pressure and a urine test, and they'll also take blood for testing. They'll also calculate your BMI and ask loads of questions about yours and your partner's medical history.

Good luck! I've got a booking appointment next week too!

CobaltRose · 24/07/2018 21:06

I didn't have a CO2 test.

As above - they will also ask you separately if there is any domestic violence!

Its medical history and becomes very real lol!!

OP just be aware that some midwives aren't very pleasant because it is routine to them and they are rushed. In addition they can tell you the wrong information about medication/supplements you take for existing medical conditions. With the former depending where you live you may be able to move to another clinic so you won't have to deal with them again, and with the latter check with one of the GPs at your practice who deals with maternity care.
