It depends how long you're there but try to pack for a least an overnight possibly 2.
I had a 6 hour discharge with one of mine so out the same day but I've also had a csection and was there 3 nights.
You'll need:
Something to give birth in - it will likely get dirty so make sure it's old and don't mind chucking
Something to wear afterwards/to go home in - dark coloured comfy clothing, loads of big knickers (more than you think you'll need) and nursing bra
A nightie or 2
Maternity pads (lots of, again more than you think you'll need)
Breast pads
Toiletries/hairbrush and ties
Towels - dark coloured are good too as they do get bloody
Flip flops - easier to get on and off than shoes and slippers will get dirty
Bin bags for the dirty stuff
Something to do like a book or music if you end up staying overnight.
Snacks and drinks
For the baby:
At least 3/4 vests and 3/4 sleepsuits
A hat
Mittens
Cardi
A few muslins
Blanket
Pack of nappies
Pack of water wipes
Car seat

Lots of snacks and drinks for both you and your birth partner. The hospital offered me food while in labour but didn’t see it as their responsibility to feed my DH. He was starving! Then after I finally gave birth late at night after not eating for over 24 hours, they stuck me in a ward and basically said there’s no food until breakfast at 7am. DH had to leave me with a brand new baby and go hunting for a vending machine at midnight.

I found it helpful to have two separate bags, one for me and one for baby, so that I wasn't having to hunt for stuff everytime she needed changing.

Things I wished I'd had last time and will definitely be packing this time around:

-More snacks! The food was vile.
-Lip balm
-Cheap pair of flip flops for in the shower as the floor wasn't very clean.

  • My own pillow
  • Water wipes for baby instead of cotton
wool
  • phone charger

As well as everything else listed I’d have a pile of clothes all together in a cupboard that you can ask your DP to bring in for you if you’re there longer than expected.
I was in for a few days and would ask my DP to bring in strap tops and t shirts and would end up with boob tube ones or ones that I had no hope of fitting into despite them being at the back of the drawer so next time I will be making sure he has easy access to what I need

2 separate bags, one for you and one for baby, and then a third that remains at home with clothes, underwear and pads in it that DH can quickly grab should you need it.

I found I couldn't eat in labour so keeping my energy up was really hard, so I'd pack more sugary drinks (and plenty of snacks and drinks for DH). Also, whilst you are at home before going to hospital make sure your birthing partner eats a substantial meal and perhaps makes a pack lunch!

Baby will need a hat, nappies and wipes and some sleep suits.

Take dark stuff for you. I didn't bleed much, but some people do.

On these threads one thing that can never be emphasised enough is FOOD. I Was woefully underprepared first time round, and you’d be surprised how hungry you can feel a couple of hours after giving birth.

The second time round I was induced so to prepare we went and made a load of fancy sandwiches and packed plenty of less perishable snacks and squash in case it was a while before I got out of the labour ward. I have fond memories of eating those sandwiches at 3am :)

Snacksss!!!! 🙈 all I remember from the first time round is being so hungry and the selection in the vending machines are limited! Iv packed jelly babies, Jaffa cakes and cereal bars! Also isotonic sports drinks :)
