Hi,

I'm due to get induced in a week.

Just wanted some advice as this is my first time just don't know what to expect. I'm getting induced due to gestational diabetes.

Super nervous would appreciate any advice. Thank you xx

Have an open mind. I was induced too and was too hung up on it not being what I wanted (although of course you go ahead because you have to for baby) so didn't get off to the best start.

Good luck, try and rest where you can xx

I was induced at 40 weeks with my DD last year. I was admitted at 10am, they checked and I was already 1cm dilated. They inserted a pessary, and after a few hours this turned from cramping into contractions.

They became more intense throughout the night and by the time my nurse came back on her shift at 9am, I was 5cm. They moved me into the birthing suit about 11.30pm, I had (demanded) an epidural and baby was born around 2.30pm.

Although painful (however I'm sure natural labour is too) I found it pretty straight forward and a relatively good experience.

I hope this helps and good luck OP!! SmileThanks

Been induced twice at 37.weeks. Both were fine.

I would say though be prepared for a ling wait. One of mine (my first) took 4 days of being induced for labour to start... though the second was only two.

Good luck.

Mine was a positive experience the only regret I had Is not jumping on the pain relief sooner. Had an epidural and it was amazing. Best advice is just don't worry about it and do it on the day

I got induced in March for reduced movements at 38+2. I was already 2cm before they started inducing me. Got the pessary in for 24hrs and it never done anything. Next day for 1st round of gel and contractions started within a couple of hours. Examined and got to 4cm but couldn't move to delivery as there was no rooms available!! Had to make do with cocodamol on the ward. 4th day in I eventually got moved to delivery and started on the drip. My labour from breaking my waters at 4cms took 15 hours and they kept turning drip off as my ds heart rate was rapidly dropping with each contraction. I started on gas and air but found the drip to painful so got an epidural which was heaven until it failed and I felt everything lol! Good luck.

I was induced with my second child at 40 weeks due to my old age. I checked in on a Saturday morning, had a pessary and a walk and lunch. This was followed by another pessary then rupture of membranes, then the the drip which I agreed to only if the epidural was in place first! This was cranked up gradually until my son was born 26 hours later from arriving. It was a slow but organized process and I was monitored and looked after very well.

I was induced at 41 weeks because my waters had broken but contractions would not start. I was given the pessary (which I found to be painful if I'm honest) at 10pm, by midnight I was having bad period cramps and had taken 2 paracetamol. By 2am they were growing stronger but I was only 2cms and using a tens machine (would definitely recommend for early labour). By 4am I was in agony and had jumped up to 6cms. I then got an epidural as I couldn't cope (would also recommend one of those) however they tend to slow down the process which is exactly what happened with me, I stayed at 6cms for another 4 hours so they broke my waters. 4 hours after that I'd only got to 7! There was talk of a C-section for a while but it never happened as baby was never distressed during whole process. I didn't get to 10cms until 6pm that night. I was awake for a total of 40 hours, it is soo tiring.

I was induced at 35 weeks for pre-eclampsia. Was meant to be 38 for gestational diabetes lol.
Found out the hard way the hospital won't give proper pain relief until you are either 4cm dialated or your waters break!!
I got the pessary at 11am and by 4.30pm I was having full blown contractions every 1 to 2 minutes apart. Around 2am they checked me and I was only 1cm dialated. I begged for pain relief only to be offered paracetamol, baby dose of dihydracodine and appologies.
About 5.30am I passed out with exhaustion for 40 minutes and woke to more horrific contractions.
By 8am midwife examined me again and I was still only 1cm dialated!!
But about 9am my waters broke and I burst into tears and told my dh to call the midwife...they had to take me to the Labour ward now lol, and they did!! Within the hour I got gas and air, morphine and an epidural and fell asleep before they put the drip in.

I woke up 1 hour before my dd was born at 5.26pm that night. 3 pushes and she was out 🤗

That was my second time being induced, both experiences were pretty similar.

Don't get too hung up on reading about the pain or length of time tho cause everyone's experiences are different, as you can see from everyones posts. Just try and relax, get things ready for your baby and spend the week enjoying your last moments of pregnancy cause you will miss your bump when your baby arrives 😊 xxx
