Vomiting blood

Hi everyone I'm 32+5 and for the past couple of weeks my sickness seems to have gotten worse like it was at the start, I'm struggling to keep fluids and food down most days. I can't stop being sick and I seem to have thrown every last bit of me up and tonight I'm vomiting quite a lot of blood. I've tried to get in touch with my midwife but she isn't answering is this something that should concern me or is it just one of those things that happen when you've vomited too much? I don't want to fuss over nothing, thanks :)

I've had awful morning sickness the whole way through, and been in touch with many midwives and doctors about vomiting blood. Do check with them just to be safe but don't panic, every time so far I've just been told it's likely to be where I've ripped a little hole in my osophegus (spelling?) Throat lining basically and it'll heal on its own

Sore throat sucks though

I had this at a similar point in my 2nd pregnancy. It was from vomiting so much I had torn my stomach lining and osophegous. I would encourage you you get checked out though, I ended up in the day unit when I called and mentioned it. I was discharged with a prescription for renitdine (sp..?) for indigestion which did the trick for the last few weeks until dd arrived! Get well soon

How much blood? Are we talking streaks of red fresh blood in vomit, or enough to make the whole vomit look bloody? Or actual
Vomiting up blood rather than blood mixed with vomit?

Is it fresh and red? If the volume is significant or if it’s older blood (which looks like wet coffee grounds) that’s an emergency and needs immediate attention.

If it’s streaks of fresh red it’s most likely tears on the throat - it still needs checking out.

Sympathies- I’ve had two hg pregnancies and it’s tough.

Call 111 and ask advice.

If you are vomiting blood, you need to get to A&E. There are several possible causes. Is it red and fresh-looking, or black like coffee grounds? Take a sample in a clean bowl if you can. Go now, because you may potentially lose quite a bit. Have somebody else drive you or call an ambulance.

Thanks for your responses guys it's like a dark red blood that's coming up mixed in the white frothy vomit you get when there's nothing left sorry for tmi

Sounds grim - I’d call 111. Take some pictures of it to show them and a sample of you can as well.

HG is awful :(

FreudRogersBeck · 19/07/2018 21:34

If you're not keeping fluids down and vomiting blood is go to a&e or call your local antenatal ward for advice.

I was admitted regularly for intravenous fluids due to HG, and you may need some. Ketones in your urine can be harmful to the baby so you need to stay hydrated. Plus anti sickness meds will help x

HG is horrendous. You're not fussing over nothing. Phone GP, go and see them. They may want to give you omeprazole or ranitidine (or something else), I had omeprazole for this and it helped so much with the pain.

WhirlingTurkey · 20/07/2018 11:12

This happened to me in my last pregnancy. I had a chat on the phone with the GP who asked loads of questions. Thought it was - as mentioned above - I'd simply damaged my stomach lining / oesophagus with all the violent vomming. Do speak to someone soon, to be on the safe side, but I wouldn't think it will be anything sinister.
