So I'm about 16 weeks pregnant and my dd is being very very protective of me! We haven't told her about the baby yet.

Yesterday we met friends and she announced "that's my Mummy" to everyone (she never does that) and she's cuddling, kissing and stroking my arms all the time and being much more affectionate than normal.

Dp was joking saying she's marking her territory - has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Maybe, at 16 weeks you are showing more than you think?
Or, possibly meroe's point about wishful thinking.

meroe I think it's possibly more that people remember when the child is right, because it feels good. If the child says that and they're not they just put it down to one of those random child things they say.

Yeah, my two definitely guessed because I was showing by about 10 weeks (third pregnancy). We didn’t plan to tell them until 20 weeks but it was just too obvious and they both kept commenting that my tummy was bigger!

My friend was 3 days late last year and even though she thought it was highly unlikely she was pregnant, she went to Tesco to buy a test. Pulled into the car park and her 3 year old who was in the back said "Are you getting something for the baby Mummy?" She was shocked (obviously!) and said "What baby?" Her DD replied "My sister in your tummy". She nearly passed out!
She did the test, positive, scan revealed a boy and DD kept insisting "No, not my brother, my sister". Scan was wrong and DD2 was born on her sister's 4th birthday!

My five year old told us all that he was getting 'a baby brother' for his birthday. We laughed about it as not even thinking of trying for another one at all, and talked him into getting a new bike instead. Discovered I was 20 odd weeks pregnant months later - when I worked it all out, DS2 must have been conceived on DS1's birthday, as requested! Grin

DS thought it was great that he'd got what he asked for. Now he's almost 13 he just thinks the whole story is so gross and we're never to mention it again...

DS2 just knew when his stepmother was pregnant - he was only two at the time. They hadn't told anyone yet but he kept stroking her tummy and saying 'baby'!

When my dd was 2 and a bit, I had a suspected mc. I hadn’t thought I was as I thought my system hadn’t got back to normal after a previous chemical pg but suddenly had this hideous bleed followed by a positive test at A&E. Obviously dd knew none of this. In between being told at A&E that I must have miscarried, and having a scan to see what was going on (an excruciating week’s wait), DD announced one night while sitting on me, “There’s a baby in there.”

She was right 😍

Hope this doesn't sound completely off topic, I just thought it was interesting, in this context: I was really poorly after having DS, now 7, and ended up having to have a hysterectomy when he was 3.5. He knew I'd had an op but no details. He has never in his life, not once, mentioned the possibility of his ever having a sibling; even though he has 4 cousins who are paired siblings. Isn't that odd? Perhaps they really do know this stuff afterall

My two year old ds knew before I did! He told DH and I that his baby sister was in Mamas tummy! He was so convinced that when I realised that I had some pregnancy symptoms, I took a test and voila! I spent the entire pregnancy trying to prepare ds that he might have a new baby brother not a sister but he knew better!

slight hijack but over on the litter tray it's not uncommon for cats to know their human is pregnant.

I'm guessing there is a change in smell.

Confirmation bias here too - when my DS was 3, he told everyone in his nursery that he was getting a baby brother. Wasn’t true, he just wished he had one and kept on saying this for quite a while. Sadly, for him, his wish never came true, (despite our efforts) and now he’s 15 and still an only child.

We had told dd1 and told her our possible boy and girl names. We have video of her saying very insistently ‘it’s a sister, I’m having a sister, my sister called x’ . Lucky she was right, phew.

Well I have one DC who is insistent it’s a girl called x and one who is insistent it’s a boy called y, so make of that what you will Grin.

My dd is also very interested in my boobs. She was breastfed for 15 months and I'm wondering if she can smell something?!?!?!

I've also been clearing out and trying to sort out her old baby clothes, getting rid of anything a bit grubby (that for some reason got put away!) and she said to me this morning "Mummy that's for a baby and I'm too big for it" - randome statement for her it was just a little t-shirt she wouldn't even have remembered wearing!!!!!!!!
