Should I complain bto hospital about this?

It sounds silly but it's really important to me... Not sure if I should complain or not.

I'm meant to give birth at Warwick hospital (due in 3 weeks). For the whole pregnancy they said to email when I'm 36 weeks for a tour of the maternity unit. When I emailed them at 36 weeks they said the tours are full so I can't have one anymore..

I'm upset because I deliberately waited until they told me to and now I've missed out.

Should I complain? Am I just being oversensitive and silly?

I never went on a tour, do you really need one?

Dreamingofkfc · 15/07/2018 08:18

Alot of units no longer offer tours anymore. Rather than complain, why don't you phone and speak to head of midwifery and see if there's a solution, or ask to be put on a waiting list?

I never had a tour of either of the hospitals I gave birth in. They're generally being eliminated anyway for security and infection control reasons.

I wouldn't waste your energy.

Ok fair enough. I guess I was just upset because they always said i could have one but you're right that it doesn't really matter :-)

The problem is I have questions about if I'm allowed to go to the MLU with strep b and some other questions. My nearest hospital is Warwickshire but all my midwife checks and antenatal care is Oxfordshire (we live on the border) so my community midwife doesn't know the policy for Warwickshire so I'm not sure how to find out :-(

Can you call and ask?

Aw12345 · 15/07/2018 09:28

Yer I could do... But what number do I call?! Id feel stupid calling the labour ward when it's meant for people who think they're in labour!?

Do you think it's ok to call them about this?

Thanks for replies :-)

www.swft.nhs.uk/our-services/adult-hospital-services/maternity/your-pregnancy-journey-antenatal-care-labour-and-post-natal-care I totally get how overwhelming it can be at this late stage of pregnancy, sorry you haven't had all your questions answered. Just guessing this is the hospital you're talking about? Hope all goes well Flowers

Thanks for the link... Has a number on there and everything :-) I should have googled it! Classic mistake! I blame the hormones...

No worries, being heavily pregnant in this heat must be tough. X

I'd be annoyed too! It is quite reassuring to see it before you go there and according to my hypnobirthing teacher it is good for it to be a familiar place. Some hospital websites have virtual tours though or at least photos which might help!

Susikettu · 15/07/2018 15:53

Our NHS trust have a video tour of the labour suite/midwife led unit on YouTube so that might be worth a look too?

HidCat · 15/07/2018 17:07

@Aw12345 if you're positive for Group B Strep you'll probably have to go to the main unit as the midwife les units aren't able to administer the drugs in most cases. I was given a quick one to one tour in my last pregnancy at around 36 weeks, they may be able to squeeze you in if they allow that, it depends how busy the unit is.
