How to stop being so TIRED?!!

And yes before anyone points it out, I know it is 10pm and I should be in bed! But have literally been sleeping for 3 days now! (hooray for long weekend!)
I work full time and am in bed most evenings pretty early. Sometimes I also sleep for an hour when I get home, get up, have tea, go to bed again. When it comes to the weekend I am struggling to do much more than sleep for the full 2 days (and nights!). I am 11+6 and feeling quite sick too - if I try to press on through the tiredness I just feel even sicker.
Pleease can someone tell me that this is normal and that it will get better soon? I am actually feeling more tired now than I was a few weeks ago.
The MW said my iron levels were on the low-ish side but not enough to prescribe supplements.
Anything I can do apart from give in and keep snoozing?!!

I take it this is your first baby.

This is exactly how I was when I was pregnant. Rest lots, drink lots. It will get better.

Hi Caz

What you describe is perfectly normal. You'll feel sooo much better in a couple of weeks. In the meantime if your body needs to sleep...let it. believe me sleep will ea luxury soon enough

Congratulations and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy

bumperlicious · 28/05/2007 08:49

Enjoy the sleep while you can before immense discomfort and pregnancy insomnia kicks in (Bumperlicious: 37 weeks. Not sleep a full night's sleep in...37 weeks!)

It is completely normal. Your body is working incredibly hard at the moment. Try to get some iron into your diet if you can but sleeping is good, don't worry about getting as much as you need. Your energy levels will return soon (and the sickness will go too).

I remember this with my first. At work I used to just slump over my desk (had a private office) cos I couldn't keep my eyes open. I took quite a few half-days off in the first trimester too because I just couldn't get out of bed in the morning, I was feeling so sick and tired.

colditz · 28/05/2007 09:02

You are at the worst time for tiredness - baby is getting sizable, but doesn't have a proper placenta yet, IIRC, so is leeching you!

You will feel better in 3 or 4 weeks.

colditz · 28/05/2007 09:03

If you feel sicky, eat dry cereal out of the box. they have iron in too.

bambino1 · 28/05/2007 09:04

wow those were the days! Forgot about that with first. Now i don't stop! DD is constant. I don't get time to be tired! Wish I could enjoy a whole weekend in bed. My idea of bliss!!! very

Caz, you need to buy some Spatone. It is an iron supplement but its just a little satchet of water that you pour into half a glass of juice.
Pregnant women can take 2 satchets a day. Its also better than the tablets in that it wont make you constipated.

You could also try eating lots of energy rich foods such as Bananas, seeds etc.

Atm I'm eating about 3 bananas a day, red meat and lots of green veg.

Plenty of water, regular short walks and regular naps/rests.

Lucky you- DS is 11mths and walking. No rest for me when i get home from work!

Caz
This sounds completely normal, especially as you're working full-time! I remember feeling horrendous at work in the afternoons although going for a walk and getting some fresh air at lunchtime seemed to help a bit.

Just keep listening to your body and sleeping as much as you need to. I found that I started to feel better at 14 weeks, almost overnight, and I was able to stay up later than 8pm again!

The tiredness will make you feel more nauseous, so just keep sleeping. You should start to feel a bit more energetic soon.

Good luck x

here too! I am 5 weeks and the exhaustion has already kicked in (was hoping for a couple more weeks of normality before that happened).

Spatone iron sachets (from Boots, big orange & white box).

Plenty of fluid, good big sustaining meals. I know you're at work, but have you got a microwave? Can you have a sheperds pie for lunch instead of a sarnie? Bananas too!

And sleep. Don't worry about it. This is your last chance to have loads of sleep for the next 3 years. Or longer if you're going to have more than one...

And it is going to get better in a week or too, honest. But I would still recommend that you sleep all the time . Ohhhh sleep. I remember sleep! Mmmmmmmm
