What to expect at my booking appointment

What will happen at my first midwife appointment?

I've got my first appointment next Tuesday and I'm not sure what to expect.

Will DP be expected to be there and answer questions on his medical history? Because he's not sure if he can have the time off work, and I'm more than happy to go on my own, but will they expect him to be there?

Will the midwife book my 12 week scan in then and there? Will I come away with a date and time for it or will I get a letter about it?

Your partner doesn't really need to be there. Mine didn't come with me due to work. It's just to ask questions about medical and family history. You could just write down brief details about his family history and you will be fineSmile

Usually they'll just send a letter out to your address for the dating scan x

I have mine on Monday. I asked the MW and she said DH doesn’t need to go

Lots of questions about you, your health, your relationship etc. None of it is particularly invasive and no your partner does not need to be there - it’s quite long winded and mainly about you so I think might even be better to just alone!
You’ll also have bloods taken, blood pressure and do a test for smoking.
That’s about it really, goes on for a while but it’s nothing to worry about.
My midwife booked my scan there and then by ringing up the hospital however I was slightly late for my booking app so it may have been because of that or it may just be protocol where I am.
Good luck and congratulations

If your DH goes, they'll likely ask him to step out for a bit to ask you about domestic abuse. As far as his medical history you need to know about any congenital conditions in his family, including hip dysplasia, history of twins or still birth.

They'll take your blood, ask loads of medical questions and lifestyle questions and give you advice.

It's quite boring really!

It's quite dull and somewhat long. You'll need to do a urine test and blood tests. DP isn't necessary.

Every NHS Trust is different. At my current trust I had already received an appointment for my scan before I received the date for the booking appointment.
