It's quite a long appointment where they basically ask you a lot of questions. It will involve questions about your health, your immediate families health and the same for your partner. They may also take a urine/blood sample and they will arrange for your first scan appointment to be sent out to you.

It's also your opportunity to ask questions and they will give you a pack full of information about pregnancy and what happens along the way with various screenings and vaccinations etc.

Not a lot.

Lots of form filling, you'll be offered blood tests (your choice whether or not to accept them), you'll get leaflets on various things. They may offer to weigh you, again your choice to accept or decline.

That's about it!

Oh ok. My partner is keen to come. It I didn't want him to take half a day off to sit there and listen to my medical history but if they quiz him too that's fine!

Lots and lots of questions. I’m on my third and DH hasn’t come to any of mine, he wasn’t needed and it would have been a waste of his time. They didn’t ask him any questions.
They also did my height, weight, took a urine sample and blood tests.

My husband came with me and found it really useful. They explain a lot about your care, how often you’ll see them and what each appointment is, as well as the medical stuff. The midwife at mine was a real sweetie and very engaged with and encouraging of my husband, who is keen to be as involved as possible. She also marked down which appointments it would be useful for him to attend all the way through, so he knew when to bother getting time off work.
They do also take you to one side to ask you if you have any concerns about your partner, your safety etc. Don’t be alarmed, it’s routine, but it’s a good opportunity to raise anything you don’t want to say in front of him. Good luck!

It can be useful for dads to go as it gives them a little insight and also, they will ask about his health and his families health.

My partner came with DS1 but now pregnant with DC2 and told him not to bother losing the money from work!

It's completely your choice whether you'd like to go together Smile
