Tips for commuting with morning sickness

Please help me out with your top tips for commuting with morning sickness. DH & I have just started TTC & this is the bit of pregnancy that worries me the most!

With DS I walked to work so could stop every 5 minutes to throw up in a bin or drain Blush. This time I have a 20 minute walk followed by about an hour on the train. I won't get a seat on the first train but am guaranteed one on the second.

What I don't want is to end up puking on myself/someone else or having to get off every other stop so I can throw up at a station.

Loads of you must have got through this part of pregnancy so please any tips more than welcome!

Eat before leaving the house, I found morning sickness much worse when hungry.
Keep as cool as possible on the train, light layered clothing that you can easily take off as needed, if there are windows that open then near to those.
I used to keep a bunch of nappy bags in my handbag though just in case I had to puke between stations. I'm not going to lie, it's pretty awful puking into a bag on a filled train, but its better than not having anything to use, and it does you some space...

If you are in London and the SE get s baby on board badge from TFL as soon as you are pregnant. Use it to ask people for a seat.

Definitely get a Baby on Board badge, invaluable.... Possibly worth it even if you're not in london/SE, it just lets people know you need a seat whether you have a bump or not - and it sounds like you definitely need and deserve a seat! If the heat is making things worse I recommend popping a bottle of squash in the freezer overnight to take with you on the commute x

You can buy sick bags on eBay! Also get a badge or simply tell people! I'm pretty shameless and tell people I'm struggling with pregnancy nausea/ vomiting - they should get the hint pretty quicklySmile Good luck TTC!

I had this when pregnant with DD.... morning sickness throughout my pregnancy and had an hours train travel each morning.

I travelled in with DH so I at least had someone with me, carried bags with me, wore my badge, and sat by the toilets. Carry water and some snacks you can stomach.

Thankfully I was only sick once on the platform. Envy< not envy.

At the end of the day, things happen... pregnant or not! You can't always help it. X

Thank you every one, some great tips here! I'm travelling with SE so I'll definitely get a baby on board badge, do you have to somehow prove you're pregnant to get one?

Freezer water & sick bags are good ideas. I'll have a look on eBay for bags and try to scope out which end of the train the toilets are on.

Unfortunately I can't travel with DH as I start work a lot earlier than him as he drops DS off at school. I do have the option of working from home a couple of days a week though if it's really bad.

Thank you, hopefully it won't be as bad this time as it was with DS. Now there's just the small matter of getting pregnant!

I’m suffering with morning (and any time of day to be honest!) sickness and I’ve found my KeepCup invaluable - totally by accident but it saved me being sick on someone else. Not sure they had this in mind when they invented it...
