Low lying placenta

Just had my anomaly scan at 19 +6. I was told everything was fine with baby which is wonderful news. However, the nurse did say that I had a low lying placenta. He said that I will need to go back at 32 weeks for another scan to see if it has moved.

I'm trying to not to think to much about it as I just want to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy after stressing and worrying up until now... just wondered has anyone else had this and what was your outcome? X

Hi Sunflower, I had this as well and was told that 80% of the time the placenta grows upwards sufficiently. Happily I was in the 80%, and at 32 weeks my placenta was 6.6cm away from the birth canal, so all is good. Fingers crossed for a similar result for you :)

Mine moved significantly out of the way towards the end of pregnancy, and is meant extra scans which is always nice.

Mine moved by the time the 32w scan came around and I had a straightforward natural birth. You can't affect whether it moves so if you can, put it out of your head for 3 months. I was told they move more often than not.

I think it's even 90% of the time that they move, and if you haven't had a previous c section they are even more likely to move by themselves. As pps say, just forget about it for now x

Oh i wouldn't worry about it. I was told the same thing at my 20 week scan and i have just had my 32 week scan. Mine has moved out the way without a problem. Having spoken to a few people in real life about it, it would seem that so many others are told the same thing. Midwives do like to make you panic! Just think of the benefits, you'll get an extra scan now to see your baby again. Enjoy your pregnancy x
