Pregnancy after ectopic

I’m 42 with a history of endometriosis and have just found out I have an ectopic pregnancy following my first round of IVF. I was told I had miscarried because they couldn’t see anything on a scan at 6 weeks - no sac in my uterus and no signs elsewhere. But now, a week later, my levels have risen and they’re monitoring me to see if/when to intervene, next appt is Friday. I had a scan earlier today but they couldn’t see anything then either (this was before blood results had come back). This has been an endless nightmare.

It would be great to know if anyone in my/similar situation managed to get pregnant following an ectopic and if so, how long did you have to wait?

I'm really struggling to deal with this loss and any advice and support would be greatly appreciated. I keep thinking this was our only chance and it's difficult to be hopeful for the future

Im so sorry that you are having to go through this experience. I also had an ectopic pregnancy in 2011 which resulted in emergency surgery and the loss of one of my Fallopian tubes. Despite this, I managed to get pregnant four months afterwards and had a smooth pregnancy which resulted in my lovely 6yr old DS. I am currently pregnant with my second baby too. The distress of an ectopic pregnancy can take its toll so please see if there is anyone you can talk to about your experiences and how you feel. Things do get easier to bear with time and support.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I had an ectopic pregnancy a long, long time ago.

The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust provide very good support and answers to questions that others may not have.

Out of interest, do you know what your hCG levels are? They are a good indication of what should be seen on a scan, and the way the levels rise can also help with diagnosis.

If it’s reassuring I had a ruptured Ectopic and my Fallopian tube was removed. I was lucky to conceive again, and my scan showed that the egg had come from the opposite ovary and made it to the remaining Fallopian tube. I hope that helps Flowers

Thank you SandunesAndRainclouds and eyesontheprize57 - it's encouraging that you both conceived again.

SandunesAndRainclouds - my levels dropped down to 140 and I was told I had miscarried. They then rose again to 350, I'm assuming they can't locate the embryo because it must be small at that level. I didn't know levels could drop then rise again. I have an appointment for more tests tomorrow and I'm hoping my levels have dropped again. I'm worried that intervention will mean waiting several months before we can try again and we'll lose precious time (because of my age). This is all very new to me and the hospital hasn't been very forthcoming with info. I'll look into the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, thanks for the recommendation

As far as I remember, you wouldn’t expect to see a viable gestational sac until hCG is at least 2000. EP levels don’t rise the same as a pregnancy in the correct location... they look for a rise of at least 66% any less than that it becomes concerning.

I’m sure the correct info is on the EPT website. Keep talking, it’s the best way through these early days.
