Went to see my mw today (37+4) and she is certain baby is now breech and ive been sent for a scan but the earliest i could get is Fri then depending on that if baby is breech ill have to go to a clinic to discuss my options next thurs (they only have it on a thurs) which ill be 39 weeks id rather go for a planned section rather than try to give birth naturally and im not willing to let them turn my baby my questions are
How soon would they book me in for section after next thurs due to my dd?
Anything i should pack in my hospital bag i will need for a section delivery?
Anything else you think i should know would be great

Thanks 😊

Hi lass

Depends on your area but I'm transverse baby at moment and have refused a ECV as I don't know where the cord is etc.

In our area we would be 37/38 weeks until decision made and date given by consultant and depending on how you are you may get kept in for a few days before surgery.

Scan would happen before surgery and then C section happens if still needed or you agree to elective.

As for bag I have a few things packed but looking for c section tips too.

Bridget Jones knickers
Maternity pads
Heat pad for belly
Cotton jammies due to temps
Sports bottle and handbag squash bottles for juice
Extendable back scratcher for itchy bits.
Dermol wash for sensitive areas

I think we have to wash with Hibiscrub for day before/surgery day/days after but again each area different.

Hope that helps at all?

@gryffen thank you for your reply hoping i wont need to go in before hand hopefully just that morning as it can be long enough stay i never thought about a scan on the day so good to know thanks 😊

I took a nightie for my planned section but in the end felt less vulnerable afterwards in big jarma bottoms and big pants. Was glad of the pants as I had a clever pressure dressing with a battery pack and needed somewhere to tuck it!
Good luck OP I loved my elective in the end (ds was also breech and i refused the ecvs) as I got 2 nights in hospital which helped me to get confident with breastfeeding and gave me time to pick up on D.S's tongue tie and get it cut there and then!

How soon would they book me in for section after next thurs due to my dd?

Meant to say mine was exactly 39 weeks (booked in 7 days before due date). I think this is standard so there is less risk of you going into labour before 40 weeks.

@OptimisticIntrovert i was thinking that a nightie might make me feel exposed afterwards so think i might need to take it out and pack another pair of jammies as my appointment is bang on 39 weeks i could face the possibility of right come in tomorrow for your section then? How was your recovery? I like the idea of staying in hospital that little bit longer to get the hang of bf and the limited visiting

My recovery was great , was driving after 16 days (just had to get permission from the doctor) and didn't really struggle to lift ds or anything (though d.h was on hand to do quite a lot and I definitely noticed when I didn't keep on top of my painkillers!)
When I thought I had to have an elcs I was sad and angry because I thought it wouldn't be "proper" but honestly it was the best decision I had. I am a c-section convert now! ~and they give you some lovely pain relief drugs!!~

I had a section for breech - undiagnosed so technically an emergency but all well in the end. My hospital bag was barely touched as I didn't need any of the energy drinks, cooling sprays, lucozade tablets etc that I'd enthusiastically packed! But actually loads of drinks is essential as it'll be hot. Definitely get hospital knickers, and if you want pyjamas take maternity over bump ones to avoid a waist band on your wound. A nightie isn't a bad idea though as they need to inject you in your thigh iirc (fragmin) and you don't want to be pulling trousers down. At my hospital they make you get dressed as they say it aids recovery - over bump leggings a good pick. Good luck! X

Also - positive recovery story here too, up and out by day 4 albeit slowly!! Struggled to come to terms with the birth but the c section aspect of it was actually fine, and I'll be doing it again this time, in planned circumstances!

butunlikely · 10/07/2018 07:45

I left hospital after a day because I was desperate to sleep after a long pointless pre labour! But I'd recommend staying an extra day - or as long as it takes - to get the hang of feeding. I should have done so, the midwives wanted me to, I was just a bit of a stubborn mule about it!!

lmx0 · 10/07/2018 09:34

@butunlikely i was thinking half the stuff ive packed for labour ill not be needing so i can downsize (therefore the mw's wont think im moving in!!) i know some hospitals do make you get dressed good point don't think mine does but will ask
when your exhausted though you will do anything for sleep!! In my hospital sections get the side rooms to help with recovery and easy to keep an eye on thankfully (another plus side to sections as normal birthed ladies can get moved at any time!)
