I'm 29+3 weeks pregnant and struggling big time with the heat. Does anyone have any tips on ways to stay cool? My fan has all but packed up and no stores near me seem to have any in stock 😞 I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to feel sick, dizzy and breathless as my house is measuring at 28.5 degrees.
Ps. I'm writing this while sat in my car on the drive with the air con on 😂

God yes. It’s horrible isn’t it?

Go online to find fans
If you can afford it, the portable AC units will cool down a medium sized room

Daytime: windows open on shaded side of house. Closed on sunny side. All curtains or blinds closed.
Evening: open all windows and put cooker extraction fan on full blast to draw cooler air in.
Windows open at night
Run a cool (not cold) bath and sit in it for as long as you need to throughout the day.

It’s bloody miserable.

Yes! I’m 32+1 weeks and it’s like torture.
I have a fan aimed at me all evening/night. Feet in a bowl of cold water whenever possible. Spray bottle for plants filled with cold water to spritz down within the sofa.

I bought a chill max pillow from ASDA it’s a JML product so they sell in the Range and places too. They stay cool for a few hours and when they get warm just move them away from your body and they get cold again after a bit. I’ve put it in my pillowcase at night, behind my back in the day etc.

Also ice lollies have become their own food group! Good luck.

Soak a t shirt or cotton nightshirt in cold water and wring it out. Grit your teeth and put it on. Bliss and keeps you cooler for a good while.
Do the same with a small towel and put in around your neck.
Wet your hair with cold water and just leave it. Cooling the head is very effective.
Ice cubes or cold water on your wrists cools the blood.

I'm keeping a bowl of wet flannels in the fridge, when it gets too much I put one on the back of my neck and one on my forehead, it's lovely

Cold baths, feet in cold water with ice in it too.

Keep blinds and curtains shut to keep house cool in daylight then open all the windows once sun sets.

Thanks ladies, I will definitely give some of these tips a try! DH came home from work with a manky old fan from the office that actually works so that has made a massive difference SmileI hope you all find some relief too, it's supposed to cool down get less hot as the week rolls on....I do love living on the south coast but at times like this I wish I was in the arctic circle Grin

30 weeks here and starting to struggle! i actually shed a few tears yesterday i was so hot 🙈

Gem173 · 09/07/2018 21:54

32+5 and the heat is literally melting me. Work is unbearable, I’m constantly sweaty. I have a travel fan everywhere I go. I have to drink a lot more and have to keep pulling my leggings out from my sweaty privates to get comfy and not look like I wet myself😂 sorry for gruesome post but can safely say it won’t get better if heat persists!

lanzlucy · 09/07/2018 22:02

Sympathies it's horrible - I slept on the sofa downstairs last night as it was unbearable.
I've found using a flat ice pack to keep in my bag has been good for getting about in the day (in the back part of my backpack so it keeps my back cool) and at night a frozen hot water bottle. I put it in its case to avoid ice burns - it stays cold the entire night and really helps. I forgot to freeze it yesterday and suffered!

CherryVicky29 · 09/07/2018 22:15

39+5 and the only comfort I have found is if you can just lounging around in underwear 😂 oh and if you have a spray bottle filling with water and spritzing over face arms and legs is very refreshing!

popcorndiva · 09/07/2018 22:18

Yep wet cold hand towel permanently in fridge to cool me down. Snacking on cool water melon in fridge and keeping windows open, curtains closed. It's awful and hopefully cooler tomorrow and Wednesday

InDreamland · 09/07/2018 22:48

It is awful isn't it. Have you tried argos online for a new fan? I had one delivered using same day delivery on Friday. 3 nearest stores all had plenty in stock. Same day delivery was a lifesaver.

eyesontheprize57 · 10/07/2018 09:46

I had about four cold showers on Saturday to cool down a bit. You could try keeping a water spray bottle in the fridge to mist yourself with when you feel too hot. The kind that you use to spray plants etc. I also tried soaking a small towel with cold water, wringing it out and then laying it over me when trying to get to sleep. This helped a lot.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 10/07/2018 09:48

SO much! 39 weeks today and I've also cried at being so uncomfortable a couple of times over the last couple of weeks. The one upside is that when it does feel a bit colder (it's cooler for the first time in ages where I am this morning) it feels like BLISS - I can almost forget everything else shit about late pregnancy if sweat isn't bucketing off me!

BlueeSpottyTiger · 10/07/2018 11:08

Not really. I'm 38+3, and i would say it hasn't effected me more than the average person. It was 32° here the other week and aslong as we've had our fans on to sleep it's been fine.
I just sit out in the shade and have lots of ice pops :) xx
