Hi girls,

My waters broke this morning on my due date! Any tips on how to get labour started? Iv had no contractions!

If Iv had no contractions I’ll be induced at 8am tomorrow! X

Bouncing/hip circles on an exercise ball. Walking up and down stairs.

Walking, bouncing on a ball and sex! I don't know whether they helped my contractions or not but worth a try right?
Although, if your waters have broken I imagine they wouldn't recommended penetration because of the infection risk? I don't know though.

I'm not sure about sex after your waters have gone 🤔 also, who can be bothered with that at 9 months pregnant...

I was advised to go for a walk after my waters went, but I think any movement is good, so bouncing on your ball might be a better option in this heat.

Do not have sex if your waters are broken!

I was in same boat as you with water breaking before labour starting and was told not to have sex by MW as will increase risk of infection!

Do try lots of walking (wear a maternity pad though, as I'm sure you've already found all still be leaking a bit as your body still makes the water despite it being broken!) and do stuff that makes you feel good, happy and relaxed (yeah I know, hard to be chilled when you're waiting for it all to kick off!)

Good Luck!

My sweaters broke with no contractions, midwives suggested walking upstairs, squatting, rotating your hips and clary sage is meant to bring on Labour!

Aargh! Waters!!!

NoNoCharlieRascal · 09/07/2018 15:22

When mine went I had nothing all day, kept busy, lots of bouncing/walking/shopping...as soon as I went to bed the bugger kicked off. He's never let me sleep since Grin

Good luck and try not to panic about being on a countdown.

This happened to me! (DS is now 11 weeks) was I duced and it was fine so don't worry if it doesn't happen naturally!!

I tried it all, long long walks, bouncing on birthing ball, eating a tonne of pineapple.. DS was quite happy staying put.

No baths or sex - you risk infection. Shower is fine (no soap or anything just water)

You'll have to stay in for a couple of days on the ward to monitor for risk of infection as your waters have gone (pack for this, I didn't!!) Baby will probs need anti biotics as a precaution but will be absolutely fine!

Congrats and best of luck for the birth and a speedy recovery!!!

Top tip, sleep as MUCH as you can now and rest. I regretted soooo much staying awake out of nerves/excitement before being induced.

Same thing happened to me at 38+6. I ended up being induced as was still only in early labour after 24 hours, baby was born at 39 weeks exactly. Although my induction was a positive experience, so I don't have any regrets, other than not getting a water birth.

Anyway... the midwife should really have given you some advice on things to try, mine did before sending me home. I bounced on my ball (gets baby to apply pressure to cervix which helps it thin), walked lots (up and down stairs in particular), masturbated (at advice of midwife - they said definitely no sex due to risk of infection, but an orgasm wouldn't do any harm if I fancied it), and tried to hand express colostrum (didn't succeed).

I hope you can get going before induction, but if you can't then please don't worry too much about the induction aspect, there are plenty of positive induction stories out there!

oh yeah sleep is a good shout! I stupidly didn't go back to sleep after waters broke and ended up being awake for nearly 72 hours by time we ended up getting onto the postnatal ward! and then I had a week of awful sleep as I was kept awake by not just DS but all the other babies too

So much luck! Hoping things have started progressing for you now

Good Luck OP!

I hope you managed to get some sleep.
