Sunburn

I’ve been an idiot and cut the grass in my vest top and put no suncream on, although I did remember to wear my wide brimmed hat. I have subsequently burnt my neck, part of my upper back, my shoulders and the top of my chest.
I can only have cold showers otherwise it feels quite painful. I have been putting sudocrem on, but is there anything more suitable?
I have no aftersun or Aloe Vera in the house. I have several moisturisers but they are stuff like body shop strawberry body butter, rather than E45 so don’t know if they are suitable.
I’m 24 weeks pregnant, but I don’t think there is anything in particular I need to avoid using?

I've used aftersun and stretchmark cream (which I figure is just a good moisturiser) on mine, no idea what else you could try.

You could try bathing in oats if you have any in. Sounds crazy but they are very good for your skin and anti inflammatory.

Any moisturiser that you normally use is ok. Most suncreams are v moisturising too (plus you don’t want to get any more burnt) so slapping a load of that on might be a good idea if you’re going out. I find aloe vera gel super soothing so prob worth getting some when you get a chance. Hope you feel better, it’s so easily done!

Thanks for the replies so far. I do have oats, and am tempted to do it just to see the look on my DPs face (although he would probably wouldn't be phased as It's the kind of random thing I'd be prone to do anyway!). I don't think the cleaning up after would appeal though!

Next time I'm shopping I'll pick up some aloe vera. I have factor 50 suncream which I will ensure I apply liberally in future. For now I'll carry on with sudocrem in the evenings and try one of my moisturisers during the day.

keep the burnt area covered (material, not suncream) until fully healed. Absolutely no sun exposure.

do not use any mucky cream, especially if you also use it on a baby's backside. If skin not broken any cheap stuff that soothes will do. Bit of a waste of pricey suncream.

Do not apply ANYTHING except cool water if skin is broken; if it is, a burn that large needs medical advice at minor injuries.

Take painkillers if ok with pregnancy. Drink plenty. Hope you feel better soon.

Thankfully nothing broken or peeling (at least not at the moment!). Just very red in parts.
I have been covering up, but as I have to walk the dog everyday I'm concerned mostly about the back of my neck. Been taking dog for shorter walks later on when it's cooler as well but it's still surprisingly warm. Can't wait until it rains! I live in Wales, I've never seen so much sun before Grin

If you do use oats tie them inside a muslin or old pair of tights to keep them together - makes cleanup a lot easier! Smile

Please get a tomato and cut it in half and rub on the sunburn it really really works and takes the burn out x

Oats in a sock or stocking works well. Knot or close with hair bobble/elastic band, throw in water, give the sock a few squeezes too. Water will go all milky and soothing.
