Is this the heat or just old age?!

I'm 19 weeks along and struggling to do anything at all - feel constantly dizzy, sick and now have a sore throat. I'm drinking litres! I'm just so hot and can't cool down - last time I felt like this was 2 years ago when 36 weeks pregnant!! My bump feels huge!! Should I bother my GP with it or is it just old age and decrepitness catching up with me!? (I'm 35 so not ancient but certainly feeling it!) Anyone else in their supposedly 'cheery' second trimester and feeling like absolute rubbish?! Heat, age, or actual illness?!

I’m 35 and 16 weeks and feel exactly the same.
It’s not age. It’s heat. 😭😭😭

BlueBug45 · 08/07/2018 17:19

It's the heat.

orangejuicer · 08/07/2018 17:46

35 and 19 weeks. Absolutely the same. Do we know each other? Lol.

butunlikely · 08/07/2018 17:49

It's so miserable! Sorry there are others in the same boat but glad it's not me being overly hopeless and past it. Toddler is not sleeping either which is probably not helping. Bring on winter!

Definitely the heat. I'm 24 weeks but feel completely exhausted. Everything is a massive effort and I'm so irritable. Will be glad to see the back of this heatwave.

Aozora13 · 08/07/2018 17:58

Same here! I was also marvelling how I managed fine with a summer born 2 years ago but now at 23 weeks (age 37) am having to cancel plans left right and centre to spend quality time with my fan! It is reassuring to know it’s not just me (although sorry you’re all struggling too).

emwithme · 08/07/2018 18:03
  1. 19 weeks pregnant. Melting.

I'm normally good with the heat but this year I'm not coping. I'm going to the supermarket daily to lurk in the freezer aisle!

Notlostjustexploring · 08/07/2018 18:10

Aged 31 here and 19 weeks and the same. I sat in full sun in the car seat for 4 minutes and it took me ten minutes to cool down, I.e. stop feeling nauseous and shaky.
Hate it. Last time I was pregnant, during normal weather, I put away 3 litres of water daily. I actually can't drink water fast enough at the moment.
Although currently my self pity is outweighed by sympathy for a friend who is a week and a half overdue.....
Although sympathy all round.

I recommend my recent discovery - a forest walk. It actually feels pleasant and was just wonderful!

Chester1980 · 08/07/2018 18:42

I’m 35 and 23 weeks pregnant. Feel the same.

Feet currently in a bowl of cold water. Got an ice pack too, but I still can’t cool down. Argh. Hate this heat.

My office has no air conditioning and my hands are soooo hot (despite constantly running them under cold water).

And I live in Midlothian. It’s a bit cooler than the south of the UK. Not sure I’d cope in the south at the mo where it’s getting up to 30 degrees most days.

Another beast from the east would suit me well right now!

Hope you feel cooler soon and get some relief x

Tilliebean · 08/07/2018 18:46

Yep, 35 and 27 weeks. It’s been horrific! I’m from a place with hot summers but in Scotland now. I usually don’t mind heat but this is so unpleasant. I have had to go down to 4 days at work...

butunlikely · 08/07/2018 22:41

Thanks all, sending sympathy to anyone similarly suffering! I take the tube to work, takes me about an hour to function once I'm at my desk. I was dreading tomorrow but after struggling through a day off essentially doing nothing (unless eating marshmallows counts as an activity) I've decided not to even try the commute. Especially after hearing I'm not the only one finding it hard going, i think that's fair enough and work will understand, these are exceptional circumstances!!

Apparently by Tuesday (down here in the south East) it'll cool down a bit...

Oof to the friend who is a week and a half overdue - hope that baby decides to come out soon!

I’m 39 weeks. It’s the heat. Makes me feel like death! Stuck in the house. The only plus for me is that I don’t need to get the tube to work anymore. Honestly, I don’t know how you or any other pregnant women are coping with that. Very good choice bailing out of it if you can.

MrsCrumbtious · 09/07/2018 07:05

I’m 34 and 17 weeks today. I’ve spent most days in just my pants, feet in a bowl cold water and eating ice lollies (such a sexy look 😂). To top it off I have the lurgey 🤢 pity party over!

BlueBug45 · 09/07/2018 07:42

@MrsCrumbtious I've been living in my pants hoping no-one comes to the door.

Strawberry23 · 09/07/2018 07:43

I’m 24, and 24 weeks so definitely not age! As I’m also struggling massively, all I want to do is strip naked and lay on the bed with a fan.

Flatwhite32 · 09/07/2018 07:46

I'm 32 and I'm 38 weeks today! I have a fan going near my face all night! First day of mat leave today, and I'm planning on spending most of it indoors with the fan on and eating ice lollies!

MoggyP · 09/07/2018 07:51

35 is 'elderly'

Seen it all now. And no, casual ageism is never lighthearted.

And yes, all of MN sees it when you put it in the title of your thread and it's in Active Convos. So yes, I open it specifically to challenge it, because it is wrong

queenofkale · 09/07/2018 08:25

Well 35 upwards is classed as a geriatric pregnancy.

That's not ageism it just is.

AuntieStella · 09/07/2018 08:39

the title says old age not geriatric pregnancy

If you intended to refer to actual medical conditions it does help to use their actual names.

Right now, the best thing might be to ask MNHQ to correct the thread title (and opening post, come to that) to reflect your stated intention.

Mentioning age whenrelevant is not ageism suitable terms are used Just bandying 'old age' does not meet that criterion.

And do remember that Equalities legislation in Britain is structured such that the determination of offensiveness rests with the group who see it as denigration. Not the person who (no matter how inadvertently) is dishing out comment that people find offensive.

I think your thread title is wrong.

hammeringinmyhead · 09/07/2018 09:03

I'm 33 and 22 weeks. I haven't had a day off yet, until today. This morning, my alarm went off after 45 minutes of sleep. I just can't go and sit in an office with no air con until 5.30. Baby is kicking, my feet hurt, my eyes are like sandpaper and I sweat all day and night!

user1471451564 · 09/07/2018 09:12

FFS! Heard it all now. Welcome to the land of the terminally offended. Stay cool ladies. I'm not pregnant but i can't be arsed to do anything but sit in front of my fan. You have my sympathies.

MrsCrumbtious · 09/07/2018 20:12

I don’t find the thread title offensive at all!

butunlikely · 09/07/2018 22:43

The thread title is tongue in cheek! I genuinely can't work out how it would be offensive?!

unless you think I'm implying all 35 year olds are ancient (I have stated I'm not!)? Or I'm testing the idea that the older you are the harder you might find the heat to deal with... Which isn't an outrageous idea really?! Unfortunately probably has some physiological truth to it?!

And I don't think many 80 year olds are checking these threads so it's obviously relative?!? In the age range of pregnancies, 35 is considered, as a pp said, 'geriatric'!

OP posts:
Charolais · 09/07/2018 22:50

DOn’t worry about it, there is nothing offensive. There are people just looking for an excuse to be butt hurt.
