Should my back be this painful

This is my first pregnancy so everything is really new to me. I’m only 26 but have always suffered with a bit of back pain due to my work.. however over the past few weeks I’ve noticed it’s causing me a lot more pain... I’m only 7+3 so wouldn’t have thought it would actually have anything to do with the pregnancy at this stage? Or is it likely just me and the fact my body is a bit dodgy?

I had a sore back first 12 weeks then disappeared after I got a new super comfy mattress and didn't come back till 34 weeks

I've been the same on and off throughout. I had a bad back before which I think was caused by my first labour. I'm 20+5 now and had to take paracetomol last week as it was aching so much, not fun Grin

I had a lot of back pain early on. It was my main symptom for a good while. It's eased off now (I'm 9 weeks) but it comes back intermittently.

I had pain around my hips and back around that gestation as well. I was worried it was the beginning of something.

I’m 16 weeks now though and no pain. So hopefully yours should pass.

If you’re worried, see your GP.

Yes back pain early on is common - it's not to do with baby weight obviously like it is in 3rd tri, but to do with relaxin hormones making all the joints and ligaments in your body go softer. Like others say it may well get better for a while in 2nd tri.

Try and keep good posture as much as possible so it doesn't get worse.

Your ligaments are probably already softening due to the hormones. If you have poor posture and/or a weak core this will cause you pain.

Best way to counter it is to make sure you use good posture and build up your core if you can. (Yes this can be done in pregnancy.)
