Hiccups

Anyone else’s baby have seemingly constant hiccups? I’m 25 weeks and this baby I swear has them all the time. Whenever I’m sat down I notice them. They don’t last that long at all but I’m confident they are hiccups. Am totally panicking, but want reassurance that other “normal” babies had them a lot and turned out ok?

I know that it can be a sign of seizures in the womb. And I’m not being paranoid as DD has catastrophic brain damage and when in SCBU the neurologist asked if she had hiccups a lot and she did. Therefore am shitting my pants . Has since transpired she suffered from lack of oxygen at some point in the last weeks/hours/birth but I will obviously always link the two !

I could speak to my midwife but she will tell me it’s normal and even an ultra sound won’t help as you can’t tell from it.

Dear god I sound neurotic.

Help!?

Hi I'm also 25 weeks and baby has had hiccups, its normal they are swallowing the fluid all the time now and i also think it depends on what you have eaten. I ate curry the other night and he got hiccups again. Try not to panic as it is natural for them to get hiccups. Just monitor the sitaution and if you're still not comfortable mention it your midwife the concerns you have. Its completely normal to worry when you've had a previous poorly child. Sorry you're anxious i know how scarey it can be. Sending positive thoughts and hope you're ok, the midwife would be supportive if you spoke to her. Don't stress alone it will worry you more x

DS10 had them ALL the time! It was like sitting on a frog. He's perfectly fine Smile

My little boy had them practically daily by the end of my pregnancy. Super cute - I've got some awesome videos of my hiccuping bump. Less cute now, because they piss him off and he whinges about it ALL DAY. Grrr.

Enjoy them while they're silent Grin

One of my boys had hiccups all the time as well.
I think it was DS1.
It’s nothing to worry about.

Thanks ladies. They are definitely daily more than 5 times in fact, a lot like sitting on a frog.

I'm so glad I didn't know the info re seizures during my pregnancies otherwise I'd have worried as both my DD's had hiccups a lot when I was pregnant with them. DD1 is 3 and DD2 was born 3 weeks ago - both are/were just as hiccupy on the outside as well so I think it's normal and generally
Nothing to worry about.!As a PP said my understanding is that they happen because of everything baby is swallowing in there.

Squaffle · 06/07/2018 13:23

All the time! I remember frantically googling at 3am the first time I felt them, and it carried on throughout pregnancy. DD is now 2, had them loads as a newborn and still gets them fairly regularly.

butlerswharf · 06/07/2018 13:37

Yes mine did. It's just baby practicing breathing. Don't worry.

Aspenn17 · 06/07/2018 18:38

My baby was the same before she was born and is now a hiccupy baby! :) A midwife told me it was a good thing, sign of healthy lungs.

RowenaDedalus · 06/07/2018 18:41

How do you know if baby is hiccuping?

Penguina · 11/07/2018 15:14

@Rowena - it’s rhythmic beats in the bump. It’s very obvious it’s hiccups.

I keep reading about it but don’t know if I’ve experienced it at all! But if it’s very obvious as you say then she just must not be hiccupy! Thanks for replying Smile
