On cerelle mini-pill but could I be pregnant?

Hi,

I’m just going to explain a few things first. I was basically on the rigevidon combined pill and had a miscarriage with that, but had to be taken off it as I suffer migraines.

My doctor changed my pill to cerelle and told me to wait a week from the day of my appointment before taking this new pill. My last period from rigevidon was on 7th June until 10th June, and I started my cerelle pill on 18th June.

Between my break from that pill, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex. As soon as I remembered I was no longer on the pill I went straight to a pharmacy and got myself the morning after pill. From that day we used condoms whilst my pill started to kick in.

However, for the last few days I’ve been really emotional and crying at nothing, I mean, this is an example, I cried at a football match, I don’t even remotely enjoy the football. Since then, I feel like my boobs have gotten slightly larger, only a little bit, but enough to notice. I have also been feeling extremely lightheaded and tired. I know that cerelle doesn’t always give you a period so this is worrying me as I won’t actually know until I’ve taken a test whether I am pregnant or not.

In terms of taking the test, I don’t know how soon I would be able to. Is it too soon, and do these symptoms seem like pregnancy symptoms or could I just be overthinking?

When I had my miscarriage, I didn’t even know I was pregnant. I had a two day bleed and then a spot bleed a few days later, then I took a test and it was positive and every other since that was negative, my nurse then confirmed I’d had a miscarriage so now I’m always paranoid about it.

Someone please help??

I was also changed from combined to Cerelle and I had no periods whilst on it. I did also notice some emotional changes so what you are experiencing could be down to the pill or the MAP. What's your cycle usually like? It's been 28 days since your last period and over 14 days since you had unprotected sex so I'd say take a test now. If it's negative then do another one in 7 days time to double check.

@boodles101 when I was on the combined I usually came off my pill after the 21 days, which would always be on a Sunday, and then I’d come on my period on the Thursday until the Sunday. I never really used to get emotional on that, I mean I’m an emotional person in general but this is a whole different level of emotional. I would be okay to do the test now then yes?

I never had a problem with the combined pill either but Cerelle is progesterone only which means it's different hormones so can affect you differently. Add that to the morning after pill and it can mess up your cycle. Definitely take a test now and then again in a week.

I found the MAP made me an emotional wreck. It's a very high dose of hormones, for obvious reasons, but it's completely logical that it would have an impact on you emotionally. Also, it is known that it can mess up your cycles, but when I took it I was advised to take a test if my next period was unusual (late, lighter etc). I'd take a test if I were you.

I got pregnant after taking the MAP, so it is possible. Although the pregnancy wasn't viable and I wrmt on to miscarry. It's also possible it's just a reaction to the change in hormones from swapping pills and taking the MAP. I think the advice to test now, and again in seven days is sound. That way you will know what's what.

If it's soon enough to have symptoms the. It's soon enough to test. The odds are that these symptoms are just a result of your new pill. I'd test now and again 2 weeks after you last had unprotected sex. Use a First response early response as they are the most sensitive. If you get a negative after 2 weeks then you aren't pregnant.

BertieBotts · 07/07/2018 12:05

Just take a test, if it's negative take another in 2-3 days or a week, if you get constant negatives for 2 weeks you weren't pregnant.

FWIW I found that the mini pill seemed to mess with my hormones far more than the combined pill, so it's possible that the symptoms you're experiencing are just due to this and not pregnancy at all. But obviously every contraception has a chance of failure even if you're using it perfectly, so there's always a chance.

@missrabbitismyidol I took the MAP 3 weeks ago now, so I don’t understand why it would make me an emotional wreck now. I’d understand if it started a few days after I took it, but it’s literally been 3 weeks which confuses me a little bit??
