CMV and Chickenpox

Hi all,

Just looking for a little advice on this one.

My daughter fell poorly over Christmas and it was found that she had a palpable liver, after some tests and an ultrasound they believe that the virus, CMV caused this.

I am 33 weeks pregnant and was advised to inform my midwife of my daughters virus, they carried out a blood test and confirmed that I dont have the virus and have never had it, i have no immunity to it.

Today, my daughter has been sent home from nursery with Chickenpox, my mother believes I never had them as a child but cant be 100% certain. I have had a blood test carried out today and I am now waiting on the results of this.

I am aware that Chickenpox and CMV are part of the same family of virus', and wondered if this could flare up my daughters CMV and whether this situation now poses any risk to my pregnancy?

Thanks

If you're not sure if you've had chicken pox you should phone your GP and asked to have a blood test to check. I had to do this last week and had the blood test. If you're not immune I think you can get some kind of anti viral shot that reduces you're likelihood of developing it.
Luckily I was immune. Good luck x

Gosh, what a scary pregnancy, so glad you didn't get the CMV, though.
This is technical, but it's basically saying that people who have recurrences of CMV (flare up) are usually very immuno-compromised already. You don't describe your DD like that, so maybe no risk of CMV coming back?

X fingers that you're ok re CP, too.

Thanks MedSchoolRat, she does seem to get alot of coughs and colds, but I guess this is normal for that age, especially in a nursery setting.
Could the chickenpox flare up the CMV do you know?

Thanks for the response.

Seems unlikely to flare-up, because she doesn't have the conditions that that article says seem to lead to flareup (like having had a previous organ transplant). The viruses being related isn't really relevant, they don't "help each other out" coz they're cousins (lol).

How bad is her CP?

Thanks for that, that is useful. She has the spots that are developing quite quickly, some have begun to blister, she appears to be in the early stages of it at the moment. She’s a bit miserable, but not presenting a fever and has been eating normally.
