So im still early stages but ive done 3 positive tests and my first midwife app is monday coming but all I want to do is talk to my mam :(

But i know shell be so disappointed, her and my partner dont like each other and my partner doesnt have a job atm.

Should I wait until I have a scan photo or do it now?
I know its not appropriate to text her (haha) but its all I feel I have the courage to do :/

Well, if you tell her that she is going to have a grandchild, I'm sure she'll be happy regardless. She may not like your husband, but it's still great news. Just do it!

Hi! The whole time I was pregnant my mum avoided the subject, me and my DP aren't married, she thought (might still do) that we argued too much (whereas we know we are both fiery and never drag a 'row' out)! Anyway now DD is here we can't seem to shake her 😂 and my DP and her are always sending pictures of DD to eachother!
Just tell her, she might not be happy to start with but as soon as your DC is here I'm sure she will be absolutely 😍

I was so worried about telling mine it made me feel sick constantly, she doesnt like children and always says she would never help look after one.I waited for the 12 week scan, rang her and told her, she was shocked but nice about it and then went and told everyone she knows so she's obviously happy about it!What I'm trying to say really is you never know how she will react and it probably won't be as you are imagining! Good luck, I know exactly how you are feeling Smile

If you want to tell her now tell her now, she is a mother and will be able to give you advice on anything you're worried about. I told my mum at 6 weeks knowing she'd be shocked and a bit disappointed perhaps (she had only met my partner twice at that point) but I figured I have to tell her at some point and no time like the present. That was if anything did go wrong at least I'd have her support.
I did text her though as I was scared! But she called me straight away. Good luck, I'm sure she'll be over the moon!

My mum reacted badly with my first pregnancy, and so did my dad actually both kicked me out. She found my scan in my thijgs i was about 16 weeks then. They both didnt want to know for a few weeks then as soon as i had her they both just fell in love with her and i see them both pretty much everyday now (they wanna see her not me lol) i am now expecting no. 2 and jave got to do it agsin but because they rracted badly the first time i am not sure how theyll react this time. If you cant tell her face to face id write her a card or a letter, least its a bit better then a text lol x

Your mum will most probably be delighted, tell her face to face. God forbid she's not, she definitely will be once your little bundle of joy arrives. Good luck and congratulations Flowers.

I didn't tell anyone until I was about 16 weeks, mainly because I was shitting myself about telling my boss as I'd just had a huge promotion. Anyway, when we told my parents we were having a new addition to the family my mum said 'are you getting a dog?'! We had been married for 9 years and I was very career focused, she just didn't imagine for a second I'd be pregnant. Once we convinced her it was a baby, not a dog she was ecstatic, first and only grandchild.

Thank you for all your kind advice, just to keep you all updated I told my sister first (because sisters stick together) and she was over the moon.
And i told my mam tonight (with sister in tow) and she reacted exactly how I thought she would. Disbeleif, disappointment, anger. Said she thought I was getting the injection and i said I had been and these things happen, and she said its not the right time, i said when is?, she said I had no money, i said who does?

She cant stand my DP and doesnt want to even come near him, so i said deal with it? (Probs not best to say but shell have to)

So she left saying she needed a few days to digest and tell me Dad.

On a brighter note... my sister said shed support me whatevet i decided to do and my grandma was thrilled. MIL is also pleased.

Your mum will come round. So pleased everyone else is delighted for you.

Havetothink · 05/07/2018 10:52

Is DP at least job hunting, no doubt he will need one and you could tell your mum he's going to interviews which is the most she could reasonably expect. My mum had no reason to be negative about my first pregnancy but still went green when I told her, after a few days she returned to a normal colour and now she loves having a grandchild so don't panic if she needs a bit of time to adjust.

captainshortie · 05/07/2018 13:18

@Fintress Thank you hun, i know shell come around and i knew shed react the way she did but was still a shock x

@Havetothink yeah hes doing everything he can to get a job, always applying, always on indeed etc but hes got no experience so nobody willing to give him a go :( hes had the odd interview but not many.
Its frustrating but I know its not his fault. Ive told my mam this many times, but shes adamant hes "not trying"
Ive also told her how hard it is especially with all these other companies closing. But she doesnt care. :(
I know shell come round, just want my mam there you know x

He could try volunteering somewhere to gain a bit of experience in something, I know it's difficult when even the trainee jobs want experience.
