Should I give the midwife a call? 33 weeks pregnant and a little concerned

I am nearly 33 weeks pregnant with baby number two, and feeling a bit concerned. It has been a difficult pregnancy with lots of bleeding and many, many scans - but over time things have definitely improved and the bleeding stopped.

Last week I had some tummy cramps and light bleeding, and ended up staying in the hospital where they monitored me and gave me another ultrasound. Everything was okay and I was sent home. I haven't quite felt myself since, and had some on-off light bleeding and cramps at times. I also felt baby drop the other day, and think she may be engaged as I can feel her really low into my pelvis.

Yesterday afternoon I awoke from a nap with cramps and tightenings, and they have been getting worse. I barely slept all night as the tightenings and cramps were so strong I was shaking. They aren't as bad now, but definitely still there. I haven't had any more bleeding though thankfully.

I am please hoping for some advice, as I'm unsure what to do and don't want to waste anyone's time. Dh has work today and has already had time off last week so can't be off today, and I don't have a car at the moment. I don't want to cause a fuss as I can still feel baby moving, but just feeling concerned.

Yes. Call the midwives at the hospital. You need to be seen. And I would advise that you do it now.
It may be nothing, but I would worry about infection or preterm labour otherwise

Please don't worry about wasting people's time. Get a cab back to the hospital or maybe DH can take you in now? I'm sure most employers would be understanding of the current situation.

Thank you for your reply, I have just been unsure if I'm being a bit dramatic as I was only there last week and everything was okay.

Please phone, they won't mind at all.

Thankfully my lovely mil is staying with us for a few days to help out with our toddler, but getting to the hospital will be difficult especially if dh goes into work. That's why I only want to go if I really have to, I just don't want to be making a mountain out of a molehill. I'm not as bad as last night and dh just thinks it's Braxton Hicks, but I've been having the tightenings and cramps since yesterday afternoon and they are still there. I never remember anything like this with my first.

My consultant told me if the pains are waking you up or stopping you sleeping we need you to come to the Hospital.

Please do go and be seen.

I echo the above, call the midwife or just go in to get checked. Don’t ever worry about wasting peoples time if you’re at all concerned about the baby. Good luck

Downeyhouse · 04/07/2018 05:50

Does matter what do thinks they are unless he is a consultant obstetrician. Smile

BikeRunSki · 04/07/2018 05:50

You are not being dramatic, please phone.

Downeyhouse · 04/07/2018 05:50

Should have read

Does not matter what dh thinks.....

Springtimeflowers · 04/07/2018 05:52

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your replies. Dh is just getting ready for work so I'll speak to him in a minute.

Did you go in @Springtimeflowers
Hope everything is ok x

Hi I apologise for not updating what happened, I'm not a very regular Mumsnet user and forgot.

We did end up visiting the hospital, and although I'm having lots of tightenings, thankfully my cervix is still closed which is the most important thing. I am still having lots of cramps and some bleeding has started again, but I've just been told to rest and take paracetamol for a few days, and if it doesn't go or gets any worse to call.

Thank you for all of your replies and encouraging me to be seen, as it's put my mind at ease (at least somewhat). I still don't feel totally relaxed about everything, but know I can call again if needed.

I had an irritable uterus with ds3 and it was bloody crap! I had what felt like contractions from 28 weeks until term (ds was born at 39 + 6 in the end) and had to be checked a lot. I definitely felt worse if I spent a lot of time on my feet or if I got dehydrated so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and eating properly. Hope your baby stays put. Flowers
