I'm a few weeks pregnant and have started getting discharge, sort of milky white and a fair bit of it, so much so I keep having to go to the loo and thinking AF is coming. Is this normal in early pg? I've read that it is later on but not specifically in early pregnancy. tia. Oh the stress of pregnancy.

Never experienced this sorry just wanted to give you at least one reply however unhelpful. Give your ante-natel dept at the hospital a ring or your assigned midwife. They really don't mind and it will help you to relax I'm sure

Bozza · 14/08/2004 13:32

I think I had this pretty much all through my last pregnancy - so probably nothing to worry about but like memder says, give someone a ring to set your mind at rest. I'm assuming you're not itching or anything in which case it might be thrush which is more common during pregnancy.

Flossam · 14/08/2004 14:22

I've had much more discharge than normal this pregnancy, not so much that I have had to go to loo to sort it out really though. Think it is fairly normal but might be worth checking out to set your mind at rest.

Levanna · 14/08/2004 23:15

I didn't have this much during my first pregnancy, but have had copious ammounts of 'goo' (for want of a better description!) this time 'round! It sounds very similar - a milky white discharge just about covers it. In fact, I have to change my undies once or twice throughout the day (you asked ) - pads don't agree with me. I have been more prone to thrush throughout this pregnancy though, so keep an eye out for any changes, soreness or itching just in case.

kiwicath · 15/08/2004 07:17

Yep, 'goo' galore for me with my one and only pregnancy. I was so looking forward to being pad free and not having to change knicks half dozen times a day - alas, wasn't to be. Was prone to thrush etc before becoming pregnant but luckily haven't had it since. Drink loads of water though, no g strings and wear skirts/dresses as opposed to pants/jeans. Good luck

I've had absolutely loads and hate it! This is now my 4th pregnancy and it's been more each time, with this one being quite ridiculous in that I also have to go to the loo to sort myself out, always have to wear thickish pantyliners and keep getting thrush because I'm always wet (nice!!!!!) (also I live in Singapore where it's always hot and humid which doesn't help). Towards the end of my third pregnancy I kept thinking I'd wet myself or my waters had broken, so I'm dreading how it's going to be towards the end of this one. My doctors say there's nothing I can do and not to worry.....it's just pretty yucky for me. It's ALWAYS there - I occasionally check with a mirror for a complete gross out - but will often come in great glops.......anyway sorry to be so graphic but you did ask! As the others say, you can and should always check with the experts if you're worried - they never mind checking or reassuring.

SonyaSingapore · 15/08/2004 07:23

sorry but can I just add a question about thrush as I asked this on another thread and didn't get a lot of response - as I said I get endless thrush thanks to the endless 'goo' (oh the joys of pregnancy) and nothing seems to clear it - I'd really appreciate any advice on good creams/pessaries/natural remedies/ANYTHING!!!!!!

thanks!

honeybunny · 15/08/2004 08:46

Sonyasingapore-
Thrush- have you tried...
pro-biotics- to increase your natural levels of flora/fauna
cranberry juice (I know more thought of for cystitis but good for an immune response)
canestan cream-always sorts me out but dont think I've ever had it particularly badly,
100% cotton undies and loose fitting cotton clothing, ie nothing synthetic
using only organic panti-liners to avoid contact with all of the chemicals in other brands,
and finally washing undies in a gentle hypoallergenic washing liquid and no softner to avoid a further build up of irritating chemicals.

Missed your other thread so apologies if this goes over old ground.

I have also been told not to use colored toilet paper because of the dye, use only white paper for thrush

heavy discharge is very normal during pg, unfortunately it does get worse the further along you go

Ronniebaby · 15/08/2004 22:21

Flush - I've had much more this time round than last, so much so that the MW was concerned I had too many white cells, but all the tests have come back negative and fine, just much more discharge.

Dont worry, it is normal, as long as it aint yellow.

And I know the feeling I keep thinking something is happening down there as I can feel mine every time

SonyaSingapore · 16/08/2004 07:34

honeybunny - thanks for your help - can I ask mor about pro-biotics though, as I'm not really sure what they are and how you get them! (sorry)

windmill · 21/08/2004 20:07

sonyasingapore, honeybunny's probiotic idea is very good, its to replace the good bacteria that keep the nasty stuff away, trouble with cranberry juice though is it normally has added sugar, i had to avoid sugar completely to get rid of thrush, it feeds the fungi, tea tree added to the bath, although some people are sensitive to this area, homeopathic sulphur

SonyaSingapore · 22/08/2004 05:57

but will someone please tell me what probiotics are and where I can find them!!!!

windmill · 22/08/2004 14:12

sorry, you can just have live bio yogurt. or acidophilus, its just stuff which contains the healthy bacteria normally found in the body that keeps thrush at bay

SonyaSingapore · 23/08/2004 13:21

thanks but unfortunately for me I live in Singapore where our supermarkets and health food shops aren't a patch on the ones at home - live bio yoghurt isn't that easy to find. Does anyone know if you can take probiotics in tablet form or anything like that?

windmill · 24/08/2004 18:02

can you get hold of acidophilus tablets

SonyaSingapore · 25/08/2004 15:20

Thank you Windmill will certainly try looking for them!

Lonelymum · 25/08/2004 15:49

For thrush I was advised to bathe the area using either natural yoghurt or vinegar. I used the latter and don't know that it helped much as I ended up getting a prescription from the doctor. Also, vinegar smells a lot and it will put you off vinegar on chips for a long time! Still, you never knows what works for others.

SonyaSingapore · 30/08/2004 15:53

Thank you! Will try out the vinegar (another doctor just told me the same thing - she said 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water) - but it does seem strange - especially as the other thing i always heard was that olive oil was a good thing to massage into the perineum to help encourage stretching and prevent tears - not that I've ever tried that - so now we're talking a complete salad dressing.......
