When did you tell work?

I don't know when to tell work, not necessarily my colleagues but my manager. Just for health and safety reasons.

I've got a positive test but my first appointment isn't until the 16th :/
Hoping its sooner as worked out i'd be about 12 weeks by then.

I'm thinking even if only so he doesn't make me go lifting big boxes of paper or things like that you know? I don't want too much strain,
Just want to be nice and relaxed all the time, anyone else understand what I mean?

Whenever you feel comfortable. I told at 6 weeks because I had sickness and was off work. I would've waited until 20 weeks if I could. Looking back that would've been hard!

This coming Thursday for me... I've got a supervision arranged with my manager and need my risk assessment to be drawn up due to environment I work in. I will only be 5-6 weeks.

With my last pregnancy (ended in MC) I told work at 4 weeks due to needing a new risk assessment, this pregnancy I’m in a different job and hadn’t planned on telling them until I was 20 weeks but it looks like I’ll be telling them tomorrow when I’m in, I’ve been hit with horrendous sickness and can’t hide it :(

I think it all depends on how you feel (if you need time off) and what risks there are to you whilst working that employers may need to make adjustments for.

I'm a practice nurse so sat down most of the day so told work after my 12 week scan. Would probably have told them earlier but just wanted the 'risky' period out the way first

6 weeks. My manager is lovely (male)!, and ive been hit by sickness needing time off work and I absolutely loathe lying. So had to tell him.

I wanted to wait till 12 weeks but my job is also very phsyical and I backed off from heavy lifting aswell so they would have worked it out !

As soon as I found out (4-5 weeks or thereabouts) due to risks in my workplace (chemicals) that could have damaged the unborn baby. I needed a risk assessment and to cease certain duties immediately. I also had bad sickness both times (currently signed off with it!) so it was better that they knew so sickness was recorded accurately as pregnancy-related (and so not included in absence record). It's a very personal choice. If I had a desk job and easy first trimester I probably would would have kept it to myself. You don't have to say anything until 25 weeks (15 weeks before expected week of childbirth) and your employer can't ask!

I said at around 6/7 weeks. I had planned to wait until 12 weeks but I was struggling with sickness and people, including my manager, had noticed me being sick in the toilets a few times. I didn't really want him thinking I was coming into work sick with the flu or hungover nearly every shift.

I'm glad I said because I'm currently signed off work because of it, and I didn't need to worry about coming up with excuses. It also makes it easier when I have appointments to go to- it doesn't look like I'm constantly chancing my arm by asking for certain days off as he knows there's a genuine reason for it.

Managers have a duty of care to their staff and their well being. As long as you feel like you can trust him/her, I think it's better to say rather than to hide it and struggle.
