Borderline APS- should I take baby aspirin?

Hello everyone, I’d love to hear your views. I had a miscarriage (blighted ovum) last year at 7 weeks, then a chemical pregnancy a couple of months ago (we’ve had no trouble conceiving and I got pregnant straight away both times). I had some tests done and all was ok apart from a slightly raised level of Cardiolipin antibodies. I saw a specialist who suggested I do the tests again after a few weeks and if they came back positive again, I should start taking baby aspirin and heparin. I’ve just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant and because I did the last tests when I was already pregnant, the specialist has said that the results could be skewed because of the hormones and I should wait a few weeks before he makes a decision on whether I should take the medication or not. I’m really torn because, whilst I trust him, I am terrified of miscarrying again and I’m wondering whether I should take the baby aspirin daily to be on the safe side? I read that it can’t hurt? Has anyone had a similar experience? Thank you x

The risk of baby aspirin is minimal but there is a higher risk of the baby being born with a disability. That’s a statistical but very small risk and I am sure explained by the fact women asked to take aspirin are at risk of poorly performing placentas and subsequent traumatic birth, so I wouldn’t worry about that. It’s more egg before chicken

I took it from 3 months because of notches on the placental arteries and previous miscarriage and traumatic birth of DS1. DS2 born healthy via c section.

I can’t advise you but would say if you start taking it without the go ahead it may skew results if you have more tests. It’s a whole pregnancy commitment to take the aspirin not just until he makes a decision so if you do go ahead, you would have to be honest as it may affect your treatment. Maybe ask again if you could take it?

So I have taken aspirin (75mg) from the moment I knew I was pregnant after having three miscarriages and an ectopic. I also had blood profiling done but it showed nothing. The consultant felt it was best I took it anyway. I am to stop at 32 weeks. I’m 25 weeks now. She’s growing well with no abnormalities and apart from progesterone support was the only thing we did differently.
My friend who is at increased risk of pre-eclampsia and has a poorly functioning placenta is on (150mg) aspirin. She may need to move on to Heparin but they are going to assess later.
To me aspirin is like a wonder drug.

Thank you do much everyone. I’m going to speak to my consultant to see if I can start taking it now as I really want to and I’d feel better and less anxious. Thank you and best of luck to you both xx
