Calling the triage line?

I want to call the triage line but I'm too scared to as I have called them quite a few times now? Am I just the only one or has anyone else called them quite a bit?

I do usually try GP but as soon as they hear the word pregnant they try and palm me off on the triage line, or my midwife. Now my midwife never gets back to me, ever. So I'm just left with the triage line.

Reasons I have called so far:

  1. In the first trimester I got bitten by a random dog which pierced my skin and made me bleed. I called to see what I could do as was told by owner they weren't sure if they had vaccinations or not! Hmm Was told to contact GP get a list of vaccinations I'd had.. Luckily I was covered.
  1. In second trimester whilst at work became very very wet down below that had to put a pad in was worried it may have been waters but I think was a change in discharge (sorry tmi) took their advice and eventually went away on its own.
  1. Late in second trimester had some spots of blood on tissue, did a urine dip stick at home was positive for everything. Was told to go to GP and was checked over there. Luckily all came back as okay and not UTI.
  1. About 2 weeks ago after a night of wiggling all night baby decided to go quiet all day the following day, so called with reduced fetal movements. Was called in and monitored, came back as baby being okay and may have worn himself out the night before.

Now I want to call today as since yesterday night I've not had any movements. I'm 35 weeks today and I've tried fruit juice, Cole water, energy drinks and been laying down and focusing pretty much all day. I'm willing to leave it a little longer but I'm so worried. I too over the past 2 days have had swelling in hands and face. It may be the heat but I thought I'd mention it to them too. My BP has been good so I doubt it's PE but want to be on safe side.

Will I get told off for how many times I ring? Sorry I know it sound stupid and I have to call to be on the safe side just wondering if anyone else has called them as much as I have..

No. Reduced movement is ALWAYS a reason to ring. Do it ASAP.

Any good midwife should tell you to phone no matter how many times, especially for reduced movements. Even if they think you're a pain for phoning up often, it's better than something happening to your baby. I phoned up for a number of things when I was pregnant, and also since having my baby, whereas I have friends who never used the triage lines when they were expecting. Everyone is different, and nothing is more important than your baby being safe. Call them!

Mindchilder · 30/06/2018 15:06

You mustn't leave it any longer, your baby could be very unwell. You need to go in now. Call triage and tell them to expect you.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 30/06/2018 15:06

I don’t think you’ve called too much or for ridiculous reasons... and even if you had, a phone call won’t hurt.

Call them.

PenguinJS · 30/06/2018 15:07

Don’t worry about being told off. I urge you Definitely to ring! Especially if baby’s movements are not right.

I’m pretty sure they’re are used to getting multiple calls. I had no need to ring during pregnancy but called a fair few times during early labour and had no problems with the midwives.

zaalitje · 30/06/2018 15:29

Call them, always call for reduced movement.

Bit OP be very careful with energy drinks most are not suitable in pregnancy, will say so on side of can.

Bluebirdsky · 30/06/2018 15:34

You don't need to worry about how many times you ring; that's what they are there for. It is very unlikely that the person you speak to today will have any record of how many times you have called previously and they only thing they will keep a tally of is the number of admissions for reduced fetal movements - and this is just for the well-being of you baby. Please call if you are worried.

Pebblespony · 30/06/2018 15:38

Ring. Don't put aside your concerns over fear of embarrassment. If this was someone else asking you, you'd probably tell them to call.

Monkeysocks2017 · 30/06/2018 15:41

I think I must have called every week!! Please call them now!! Don't wait any longer, I hope everything's okay!! Xx

Charliebob1337 · 30/06/2018 16:00

Thanks for all the comments and support have called them, waiting for a call back on when they want me to come in (should be in next 2 hours).

Also thanks for heads up on energy drinks, I only had half a bottle of irn bru (the less caffeinated ones now) just for a bit of fizz. Never usually drink them only during times like this.

Hope all is well op
Never be scared to ring
Ive been to hosp 4x in the past 6ish weeks due to pain.
Thankfully not had to go due to reduced movements.
They will either give advice on the phone or ask you to come in.
Good luck

Ive never heard of them asking you to wait for a call back?? Esp if its reduced movements it should be matter of urgency

MadeForThis · 30/06/2018 16:14

Hope all is well. Glad you called them. You should ALWAYS call for reduced movement. Midwives will be happy to check you out.

lemonnmeringuepie · 30/06/2018 16:15

Ring them!!!

LostMyBaubles · 02/07/2018 12:54
