Bio Oil or Cocoa Butter?

Has anyone been using either of these to avoid lots of stretch marks? Which one should I go for? At the moment I am using Bio Oil but throughout the day my belly gets really itchy and now wondering of I should switch to Cocoa Butter to calm the itch?

I used Palmers cocoa butter for bumps - I think stretch marks are a crappy lottery and maybe to do with genes, but it was lovely and moisturising and made me feel like a I was doing something to help!

Palmer's cocoa butter :-)

Google motherly love and look at their tums and boobs oil (i think its called mat have just made that up lol) with my first pregnancy i literally used every lotion and oil on the shelf. None worked, all felt greasy or sticky. Then i stumbled accross the above at a baby show and i havent looked back. I already had stretch marks on my boobs and it dulled them down alot (i used it after pregnancy too) they were not noticable towards the end of my pregnancy. I used it on my bump ans got no marks, however i didnt use it on the top of my thighs /side of bum and ive got stretch marks there. Definitelt recommended just getting a littke bottle to try it out but ive just ordered more for my second pregnancy

I use both! Bio oil at night and cocoa butter in the morning. No stretch marks so far (33weeks). However, my mum didn't get any and I have heard it's hereditary

Stretch marks are due to genes not what creams/oils you rub on your skin. So if your mum, grandmother or sister had them you are likely to.

Sadly I agree that it's 100% genetic. If you've already bought the bio oil (expensive!) I would just keep using that. I've used some cocoa butter in the last few weeks of pregnancy just because I found it in the back of the bathroom cupboard and thought why not, but it won't any difference whatsoever it just makes my overall skin softer :) I've used it more on my arms and legs that are dry from the the hot weather rather than on the bump anyway tbh.

Whether you get stretch marks or not is completely down to genetics, so you can rub in anything you like & it won't make a bit of difference other than giving you lovely soft skin. Sorry!

It doesn’t matter what lotions you use on your skin - if your going to get stretch marks then I’m afraid your going to get them! Any moisturiser will help to improve the feel and general condition of your skin but nothing will actually prevent you from getting stretch marks - they all claim to do wonders but if that was the case then none of us would have any marks!!!
It’s all in your genetics I’m afraid.

Neither will make a difference RE stretch marks.

BUT I've been told oil based creams are great for dealing with itching. Just been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis and the consultant recommended getting one to help ease symptoms.

Im using aloe Vera and palmers at the moment

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 29/06/2018 07:37

After the shower rub baby oil on wet skin. No stretch marks and many dc....
Worth a try.

OMG-none...COCONUT OIL..get a can of 'Pro-chef'aerosol&spray liberally when still damp..i had a big10lb baby&not a single stretchmark..now she uses it on dry face..also works miracles in long thick hair of ours too..good luck xx

tmh88 · 29/06/2018 08:09

I used bio oil and palmers tummy butter didn't get any stretch marks till around 37/38 weeks(little did I know I was going to go another 4/5 weeks!) they seemed to appear over night.. very much genetic I think unfortunately! Sad

The stretching is subdermal. Which is why creams don't help prevent/ minimise stretch marks. They can help with itching and discomfort though.
