Contact your HV or GP immediately. Babies are supposed to poop every day until they're 6 weeks old

dementedpixie · 27/06/2018 12:43

I agree that needs intervention and soon. Newborns should be pooing several times a day. Its only once they reach 5/6 weeks old that they can change to less often. Has your midwife/hv not been visiting regularly

Littlechocola · 27/06/2018 12:45

Is she breastfeeding or formula?

Efferlunt · 27/06/2018 12:45

Is she breastfeeding? It makes a difference. Mine didn’t go for 8 days after discharge from hospital, when he did it was epic newborn poonami. Kellymom has some really helpful stiuff on breastfeeding and pooing. Speak to your Health Visitor and see what they suggest (bicycle legs etc)

Bluebirdsky · 27/06/2018 13:01

Have you not been seen by a midwife in the last 9 days? If not you need to contact them as somebody should have seen you.

jamsyoink · 27/06/2018 13:49

I’ve been feeding her both breastfeed and formula. We had an app today with her pediatrician and she said it was fine, but I don’t think it’s okay for her to not go poo poo this long Sad

I totally agree, I'd get a second opinion if I were you, better to be safe than sorry.

Strawberry2017 · 27/06/2018 14:55

Are you getting plenty of wet nappies? X

beccii161016 · 27/06/2018 15:07

I'd make an emergency GP appointment and get a second opinion. 9 days is a long time for an adult not to poop let alone a baby.

My little lad was constipated when he was a newborn. We dipped his dummy in the tiniest amount of apple juice and it was enough to help clear him out. Also sort of stimulating the bottom by wiping it with a baby wipe can help to get things going. I really would visit a doctor very soon though

TwoSweetenersImBitterEnough · 27/06/2018 15:48

Baby must be very sore, is their belly hard? Do they seem in discomfort? And as PP have asked have you had plenty of wet nappies?

If you are willing to try orange juice or some prunes then give some and see if that helps. If not go straight back to the GP ASAP and get some sort of baby laxative, I doubt you will be able to get it in a chemist without prescription.

And prep yourself because I expect the clean up to be extraordinaryGrin

Wellthisunexpected · 27/06/2018 18:51

In such a young baby and with formula it is unusual. Can you get hold of your midwife? Or health visitor team if you've been discharged?

jamsyoink · 28/06/2018 03:18

She pooped! Grin it was a lot. Green and runny.

If she is exclusively breastfed, it happens and is not a problem. Dd only pooped every 8 or 9 days for the first few months...
I don't know if it's the same for formula fed babies.

dementedpixie · 28/06/2018 06:51

It Is a problem for a newborn whether breast or bottle fed. After a few weeks it is normal for them to go longer but not a 10 day old baby. I'm glad they finally got there though, hope it continues

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 28/06/2018 09:22

My second didn't go for three days at about ten days old. I mentioned it to my midwife, who cheerfully told me I could take him up to the hospital, but they'd just send me home and tell me he was too young for laxatives. He was peeing plenty and pooed when he was ready. He was EBF though so I was confident he wasn't constipated and he'd cleared all the meconium and was onto yellow milk poos.

Tbh it seems to me like they're principally worried about pooing at first as an indicator of milk consumption and if baby is peeing copiously they aren't stressed, but I could be wrong.
