"A woman who gave birth prematurely spent the last two months of her pregnancy housed by a council in a portable hut, the BBC has learned."

It's not ideal, but it's got to be better than her previous situation:

The woman, who lives in the portable building with her partner, was homeless and had slept in sheds, cars and a bus station while pregnant.

They do say it's only temporary. If there aren't houses available to move her into, there's not a lot the council can really do. At least she has a roof over her head.

I agree it's better than being homeless.

As a short term measure where there's no other option I don't disagree with it.

Racecardriver · 27/06/2018 09:57

They didn't make her live there. She asked for help and they offered the best that they could. If she didn't want it she could have said no.

Better than trying to raise a baby in a bus shelter

It's not ideal but it's better than nothing

BexleyRae · 27/06/2018 10:06

It's not ideal for someone with a baby, but if run properly it could be a great way to help the homeless get off the streets

TheFaerieQueene · 27/06/2018 10:12

Of course it is better than her alternative. The real issue, however, is the wholesale sell off of Council/HA properties leaving a dearth of affordable homes for so many. It is the scandal of the past 20+ years. How can we, as a member of the G8, be in this situation?

ShotsFired · 27/06/2018 10:16

Those huts are specifically designed and built to be used as living accommodation. Mainly for groups like roadworks support crews (I had a long chat to one such worker recently). They move in and then live there full time for months at a go. He said it was actually pretty nice - they have separate cooking facilities, hot and cold running water and great showers, its warm, insulated, they have lighting and power.

So it's not exactly a windswept open fronted bus stop hut.

I can think of a lot worse as emergency accommodation.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/06/2018 10:23

She was homeless, they have her accommodation. Hospital support will help ensure baby is released only to appropriate accommodation. Given the housing crisis surely these kinds of measures are better than no?

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 11:40

It's better than her alternative which was the street/shed/car. Whilst her situation is sad and unfortunate it's the best that the council could offer.

shonkyklingonmakeup · 27/06/2018 11:43

That's shit. The social housing situation is woeful.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 27/06/2018 11:56

No-one made her live there. She choose to
