Growth scan after shambolic midwife appt

I have just had my 36 week midwife appt and my normal midwife is off sick.
I was left with a trainee and a student...
Both took the measurements, one got 32, one got 34. Both low.
Now I have to go for a growth scan.
Thing is. I know they measured from a different point compared to my normal midwife.
They also tried to get me to have my 28 week bloods done as they were not done. Despite me saying they were. Eventually they agreed that they were already done.

I asked if it was normal for the skin on my bump to be a mottled pinky red colour? May just be the heat. When they looked they saw that i was covered in tiny scratches, bump gets really itchy particularly at night so now I'm being sent for blood tests to test my liver.

1- I don't feel particularly confident in what they have said so made me somewhat uncomfortable
2- does anyone know how long roughly a growth scan takes? Are we talking an hour? Whole day with monitoring?
3- does anyone else's bump get red patches particularly in the morning?

Thanks. I'm a bit all over the place after that appointment.

You sound like an absolute drama queen.
What kind of job do you do? Did you ever have to have a period of training for it? If so I hope that you were completely perfect straight away.

They asked your permission to take your blood pressure, there was a concern about the measurements they have acted on it and you asked a question about bump being itchy, you are having the necessary investigations.
Ok so they weren’t polished, but these things take time and experience. Your healthcare needs have been met. Get over it.

You seem really cross about their attempts to obtain your consent and ensure you and your baby receive appropriate care. "Shambolic" is a pretty damning way to describe what sounds like a fairly routine appointment, would you have preferred them to gloss over their concerns and send you on your way with a cheery "I'm sure there's nothing to worry about".

Yep asking for permission is a very standard thing to do. They might have been a bit I really the too but I can assure that it’s drummed into them that yu Just can NOT do anything wo the patient consent. Because otherwise it’s considered assault.

The measurement is always hit and miss. That’s why you got two (three with yoUr normal midwife). The same issue with measuring happened to me and the midwifes and consultant all had several years (decades?) behind the. It’s just unreliable and only give you a rough idea of where you are.

Growth scan is like a scan. They’ve checked the growth each time you’ve had the 12 and 20 scan. It won’t be any different.

Tbh, I appreciate you have felt uncomfortable to be left with a trainee and a student instead of your normal midwife. It it looks like they’ve spotted the red flag (the itching) which was the really crucial part in your appointment.
They checked the growth of the baby and have sent you for a scan just in case.
What else did you want them to do?

Blimey op you're harsh!! They sound like they've done a thorough job and possibly picked up on a serious liver condition.

I'm a nurse and we have to ask for consent at every step of a procedure!! If we didn't we could be accused of assault.

A scan and some bloods? Neither will hurt you, if both come back fine then just be glad of the reassurance. I don't get the drama?
