Can't get gp appointment what should I do?

I'm anticipating another challenge tomorrow morning in bot being able to get a gp appointment to discuss a possible dvt/thrombophlebitis issue. What are my options if they are unable to give me an appointment. A telephone appointment just won't cut it this time as the problem is visibly getting worse. I have seen the doc last week who suggested thrombophlebitis but it is getting worse and starting to worry me again. Also I'm 27 weeks pregnant Smile

Hi @endofthelinefinally the vein in question is in my foot so no calves are not swollen, but the foot in question is. The pain is incredible, like I'm struggling to walk on it and there is definite redness and a sort of thickness to the suspect area which is getting bigger it was just one line now it goes off in another direction too. I'll attach a photo...it's not the best and really doesn't do it justice!

That does look sore. It looks very inflamed. Could you have a thorn or a splinter in there? It is an unusual place for a clot but not for a foreign body causing infection.
Could you get an appointment with the practice nurse?
IME they will always get the GP to come and look at something for a second opinion. It is often easier to get to see the nurse.

Lots of people on mn are weird about going to a and e (your head could have fallen off but they'd still say oh no go to the walk in, but conversely are obsessed with reporting things to 111). In your circumstances I would go to a and e, you've tried with the docs and got nowhere. Take your notes, a huge bottle of cold water and a book.

It definitely needs looking at and the receptionist should not be stopping you from being seen.

tina679 · 26/06/2018 10:44

It's already been seen by a nurse and gp. Who have confirmed no infection and also there's no injury to the area. They have suggested thrombophlebitis (waiting on urgent ultrasound booked for next week) but as I'm pregnant and been quite sedentary due to SPD I'm concerned it's a dvt as It's been like this for a total of 7 weeks now and only showing signs of getting worse. And the inflammation follows a very linear pattern rather than just a patch if you know what I mean.

In that case I would go to A&E.
They should be able to bring the scan forward.
I am lucky that my GP will always do an "on the day" appointment, and we have a really good walk in centre here.
It is awful that some parts of the country are so badly served.

Quick update.....doctors gave me an appointment for tomorrow afternoon and DH thinks I should just wait for that. So I'm guessing as neither him nor the docs think it's an emergency I should just wait 😞

Have you had your appointment? How did it go?

FrowningFlamingo · 27/06/2018 20:43

DVT means deep vein thrombosis. Do we even have deep veins in our feet?? Ive only ever heard of DVT in calves.

adviceonthepox · 28/06/2018 01:09

How did you get on op?

hoping2018 · 28/06/2018 08:59

It's not a DVT as you don't have deep veins in your feet so you can relax a bit! X
