Baby’s head no longer engaged?

Hi all,

This is my first pregnancy, I’m currently 41+1 weeks and had the midwife out today to attempt a third sweep - cervix was too far back the first two times.

When she examined me she said she could now move the baby’s head depsite it being engaged for the past 5 weeks so she couldn’t give me a sweep. Apparently it has moved up??? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I have to go in hospital on Wednesday for 40+10 monitoring then induced Friday if all is well.

I know it’s best for the baby but I really really really don’t want to be induced it’s so far from everything that I wanted & imagined for giving birth. I planned a home birth but that’s out the window come Wednesday!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance Smile

It may not be best for the baby... they might simply not be ready just yet, he/she may need a few more extra days.

Definitely go for monitoring, check the placenta and everything is still functioning as it should, heart rate, etc.

But if all looks fine and you don’t want to be induced just yet, then say no.

Thank you, I feel like they've got me further along than I am if I'm honest but I don't want to interfere if they're the professionals.

Let's see what Wednesday brings!

Some babies engage and disengage just for the fun of it.

I gave birth to DC2 a week ago, they weren't engaged 2 hours before I gave birth. Then suddenly they were. They had been engaged at some antenatal appointments before that, but not at others.

Apparently bouncing on one of those gym balls can help get things in the right position.

The midwife who examined me 2 hours before DC2 was born and told me I wasn't in established labour and the head wasn't engaged also said that staying on your feet and using the power of gravity can also help things along.

Thanks for replying! Congratulations on your new addition. I'm just going to try and make the hospital experience as nice as possible as it's all out of my hands now, no point stressing! Smile
