Sweetheart, I feel you, but take my advice.

After years of tanning, surfing, skydiving and driving a convertable in Southern California, I suddenly got brown spots on my face last year. It has another name but it sucks in any language. Used a plethora of meds to lighten them up, none are okay during pregnancy. Now I have a host of NEW brown spots that are cholasma. I use sunblock and I live in London, FFS, where I haven't seen the damn sun in MONTHS (save the past two days!)

If you do not have brown spots, mum2be, SERIOUSLY consider avoiding them. They are not cute, sexy or fun. It means NEVER tanning again. I have fab skin, never had a spot, I'm 41 and have no wrinkles at all. Now I look like I've gone 20 rounds with a paint by numbers set. Please trust me, you want to avoid it.

There. That's my two cents but if you don't have to buy the very expensive and only partially effective skin lightening meds after pregnancy, I'd say they're worth more!

Tanning, be it sitting in the sun frying yourself or in the tanning salon, is the surest and fastest way to looking like a prune. If you want to have a 'healthy glow', then wait until you're past 12 week mark and use a quality self tanner. Same results but you'll save your skin from damage and won't look like a crimpled rasin at 30.
Ok, rant over, had a scary morning, sorry ladies.....

as it was really hot last year when I was pregnant I got a pregnancy mask trust me you dont want one my face looks like it has dirty patches on it if I go anywhere near the sun,

My DD is one and I still have it just from walking round the shops on a sunny day

amexgirl · 01/06/2007 14:26

What a load of spoilsports. Go for a sunbed, put some high SPF on your face first (or cover it with your Tshirt!), and don't stay too long - get out if you're getting hot. Sorted.

The question here is not 'is it safe to go on sunbeds'. It is 'can you go on while pregnant'. Completely different questions actually.

lulumama · 01/06/2007 17:43

amexgirl...it is not neccesarily safe for the baby, risks to the mothers skin and health aside

slap on fake tan, or treat yourself to a fake tan at a salon

CrispyNoodles · 01/06/2007 17:43

I thought the answer to both questions was "no".

Can anyone recommend a good fake tan that doesn't smell vile? I've tried loads of different brands over the years and they all stink.
I'm currently using an Ambre Solaire one, but I mix in a bit of Clarins body treatment oil (which smells lovely)to disguise the horrible fake tan smell.
