Pregnancy weight gain

Was just wondering what people think is a reasonable weight gain in pregnancy? I lost 2 stone before becoming pregnant and I had (still have) about another 2 stone to loose, but that will have to wait till after the baby is here. I'm now 28 weeks and have gained 1 stone 2lbs so far. My bmi was "overweight" pre pregnancy and is now "obese" which has just made me feel like crap! I tried so hard before becoming pregnant but my relationship with food is just so weird at the moment, there are certain things I just can't bear to eat and other things I can't get enough of! Argh. Just venting really as I'm feeling pretty rubbish about myself 😞

I put on 4 stone both times. Not great and the end of pregnancy would've been easier had I been smaller but I had constant nausea and the only way to get rid of it was to eat constantly. It does come off again!

Apart from your booking in weight they don't use BMI when your pregnant.

I think the suggested total weight gain is 0-15kg (bearing in mind weight gain tends to be highest in the 3rd trimester). I was very disciplined with my first and have struggled with my second. I think it helps to consider everything you eat in terms of nutrition for your child, more motivating than ‘I must not get fat’. IMO eating too little far more harmful than eating too much.

That should read 10-15kg!!!

You shouldn't be looking at BMI while pregnant. I'm naturally very petite and put on over 3 stone. Please don't try to worry about it too much.

Thanks for your replies, I only mention bmi as I had my GTT bloods done today and I was weighed and she actually mentioned my bmi which was what shocked me.

Your GP/obstetrician/midwife should have had a discussion with you about this. As above, 10-15kg starting from a healthy weight range. Most of that will be liquid, placenta etc so you personally shouldn’t be showing much more around the face etc unless it’s twins (in which case you are never allowed to stop eating ever).

I put on 10kg in my pregnancy.
