I'm 12 weeks pregnant and going on holiday soon, in Europe. What is everybody's advice for what to take/what to eat (or should I say not eat!)/how to cope in the heat? Thanks all Smile

I've just got back from 2 weeks in gran canaria from weeks 15-17 and I coped fine checked that the water was safe first for ice only didn't drink the water, stayed away from the usual stuff but still enjoyed fish and seafood and I'm fine! Just make sure you wear light loose clothing and top up the sun cream I used factor 50 and still tanned. Drinks were easy enough too Just stuck to fizzy water or fizzy drinks or juices or alot of places do non alcoholic cocktails too! Id say take a hat too that was my life saver! Hope you have a good time! X

P. S make sure you have travel insurance and let them know you're pregnant!

Yes, double check your travel insurance before you go. Most insurers won’t need you to declare a trouble-free pregnancy but some have different rules.

I went on holiday at 25 weeks and it was fine. As on crutches due to SPD so it was a lazy one, fine with me! Lots of loose baggy clothes and a can of magicool helped on hot days.

One thing I was much more cautious about was food poisoning. Bottled water all the way, and I avoided any foods that could lead to a bad tummy. Make sure you take over the counter meds like paracetamol and heartburn tablets, as they can be a PITA to find in some countries.

I went to kefalonia at 29 weeks and it was fine. Just stay in the shade if you feel too hot and put plenty of sun cream on as you tend to get sunburnt more easily when you are pregnant. I didn't know this and im ashamed to say I did get abit sunburnt on my bump on the last day Blush

I was 13 weeks pregnant this time last year in Benidorm.

Just be careful what you eat, stay hydrated and be sensible in the sun. I spent the first day on the beach and I got an awful sunburn and broke out in huge blisters all over my body. It was so painful. It's never happened before or since so I can only assume that my skin reacted differently whilst pregnant.

I'm 19 weeks pregnant now and currently on hols in Sicily. We did check with the midwife before going and she was fine with it, she did mention that you needed a certificate to fly over so many weeks (sorry can't remember the number as 19 was fine)

She did repeat again and again to take my notes so I would advise you do that. It's true we do sunburn more easily, I'm using factor 50 and topping up every 2 hours and so far I'm not burnt. We also are much more attractive to mosquitoes, something to do with our body temperature being higher. Even though I am using deet (which is ok to use when pregnant) and cover up, I've still been bitten. Just something to keep in mind.

I've avoided all the usual stuff in addition to eggs here as of course in the UK they are OK if they have the red lion but not sure about Italy so just avoided. Like the others have said, bottled water is best.

Hope you enjoy your trip, locals here guess I'm pregnant all the time which is nice Wink

I’m 13 weeks and going abroad on Saturday. I’m not planning on doing anything different really, except taking my notes.
Avoid the same foods you’d avoid in the UK, stay out of the sun if you feel uncomfortable in it and drink lots of water.

I drove back from Spain with 20 days to spare!!
Sun bathed in a bikini and swam every day!!

(I went on holiday multiple times in both of my previous pregnancies, including at 34 weeks and that approach seemed to work!)
