Swollen ankles at 23 weeks

I’ve been out all day long today, it’s been really hot and I’ve been on my feet all day. Noticed when I got home that my ankles are swollen.

And I was struggling to get my feet into my pumps as I assume they’ve swollen too. Do I need to be concerned?

Hmmmm I'm not sure but it might be worth a phone call to midwife tomorrow just for advice?

Swelling usually is something to watch out for but considering how hot it is and uuuve been active all day I suspect that’s the cause. Best give the trays a call for advice but also keep your feet elevated and maybe soak them in cool water to reduce heat related swelling

PenguinChristmas · 24/06/2018 18:08

Damn spelling I mean give triage a call

bluerunningshoes · 24/06/2018 18:08

as long as the swelling goes away after a good rest with feet up on the sofa/bed then it's just normal 'damn you it's hot' swelling.
drink a large glass of water to flush out the water retention.
call midwife if feet are still swollen after half an hour rest, minimum of 2 large glasses of water & toilet.

good luck

Thanks, could it be only a signal of pre eclampsia or something else? I won’t call her today, I’ll see if it goes down overnight, I’ll call her tomorrow if they’re still looking bad.

Do they look bad from the picture?

it could be, but most likely it's just the heat and you not resting as much and possibly rehydration.

bluerunningshoes · 24/06/2018 18:20

de hydration

Adviceplease360 · 24/06/2018 18:21

Definitely call the midwife tomorrow.
I hope it's nothing and don't want to alarm you but it can be a sign of preeclampsia.
Some people don't have any other symptoms.

Hey im 23 weeks too, my feet have been swollen this week and so have my hands, i have had to take my wedding ring off, but its been the heat, make sure you are hydrated and put your feet up BUT as its a sign of pre eclampsia i'd defo get checked just ring midwife and ask her to check your blood pressure, urine etc.. this will also show if you're dehydrated, they would rather you call than not xx

SamanthaH92 · 24/06/2018 18:51

I was at gps friday for swelling in ankles and feet. More my left than right but both still swollen. Blood pressure was higher than normal, no proteins in urine. She wasn't concerned but rang the PAU they also were not concerned. They said blood pressure had to be a lot higher, swelling should be all over and pains in stomach before they would think its preclampsia.

CathyandHeathcliff · 24/06/2018 19:09

Thanks everyone, after elevating them for a bit, the swelling seems to have subsided somewhat

I will call my midwife if they get worse or happen again

It can be a sign of precamplsia but my midwife / labour ward said that in heat and explainable circumstance for swelling it’s likely it’s not preeclampsia. Any sudden swelling without any cause she be checked out sta away.

Definitely give your midwife a call tomorrow and see what she thinks. They may just want to check your blood pressure as well.

CathyandHeathcliff · 24/06/2018 19:38

@PenguinChristmas Do you think I still need to call her even though the swelling has gone down?

Also, my Midwife is currently on annual leave.

It’s up to you. If it’s gone down then I’d be happy it was just heat related (I’ve had a it a few times after hot busy days) but if your still concerned at all or just want some reassurance I’d call your labour ward / triage in the morning for advice

CathyandHeathcliff · 24/06/2018 20:17

@PenguinChristmas Thanks, I’ll see how they are in the morning but from what I can see they’ve gone down since resting/elevating them.
