11 weeks and bleeding will A&E scan me on a Sunday?

Had a good scan at 8+5 a tiny bit of spitting last night and a bit of red blood this morning. Terrified. If I go to A&E will they scan me?

They probably won't have the facilities to, your local hospital should have an EPU. they may be open on a Sunday or they may make you an appointment for this week. When similar happened to me I got an appointment for the next morning.
Hope things work out for you Flowers

underdogG · 24/06/2018 09:44

Probably not in my experience sadly
I’ve hsd similar but on a sat eve I decided to stay in bed and went to the EPU on the Monday first thing. It was all ok I had a subchorionic haematoma

underdogG · 24/06/2018 09:45

Hope all is ok xx

NotARegularPenguin · 24/06/2018 09:48

Very doubtful. Even on a weekday you often don't get a same day scan.

NotARegularPenguin · 24/06/2018 09:48

Hope all is ok. I know it's scary but often doesn't mean the worst.

Velvete · 24/06/2018 09:49

In my last pregnancy at this hospital I had a same day scan but that was on a Friday.

Where are you? In Manchester the EPU would likely see and scan you today. I suppose it depends on services in your area.

Good luck. I hope all is well Flowers.

Leannah5 · 24/06/2018 09:52

Unlikely. I had to wait it out and get a gp appointment on the Monday. They then booked me in for the Wednesday. It's tough OP I feel for you. My bleeding was no problem at all and I'm now 21 weeks and all good so far. All the best Flowers

pannikin · 24/06/2018 09:53

Velvete can you see if your local hospital has an EPU? It would be worth calling them, if so.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 24/06/2018 10:15

My local EPU is not open at weekends, I’ve been to A&E twice over weekends with previous pregnancies... full on haemorrhaging, and they wouldn’t see me till the Monday.

OrchidInTheSun · 24/06/2018 10:23

I would wait until you can go to the EPU. I was scanned in A&E by a registrar who had clearly never done a pregnancy scan - I was 15 weeks and he gave me the whole 'sorry for your loss' speech. That loss is upstairs playing on his computer

I'm so sorry, I know the waiting is agonising Flowers

SleepFreeZone · 24/06/2018 10:24

I would doubt the correct staff would be there on a Sunday. I’m so sorry OP.

PenguinChristmas · 24/06/2018 10:26

I think it depends on your area. Pre 12 weeks as it’s considered early and A&E don’t tend to have the equipment / trainer staff to do the scan likely is they’ll refer you to EPU for a scan next week. If your EPU is open on a weekend then they would see you if they can.

I had a bleed at 14 weeks and A&E refered me to the Norma maternity department for a scan but they did tell me pre 12 weeks its not Normal procedure.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 24/06/2018 10:31

Phone your local early pregnancy unit if they are open and ask their advice. My local is open Sunday mornings and scans almost everyone during the appt.

If not open phone your OOH GP service and ask their advice, or if you are bleeding heavily or feeling unwell go to A&E.

bunnyrabbit93 · 24/06/2018 10:32

Hope it's all okay. No they don't have the facilities to scan. My experience was They will either book you a weekday scan appointment or admit you if they feel it's necessary to gynaecology and in gynae they will" still have to wait until a week day to scan you. My consultant did a emergency scan only due to sever pain which he said there was free fluid and when asked what does that mean he said I don't know I'm not a sonigrapher

Frazzled2207 · 24/06/2018 10:40

Call the hospital number on your pregnancy notes. They will advise, I wouldn't have thought they would send you to a&e today. I would be surprised however if they didn't agree to see you tomorrow.

Cattenberg · 24/06/2018 10:52

I had spotting in early pregnancy, then had a small but unprecedented (for me) red bleed one Sunday at 14 weeks. I was so worried I went to A&E. I told the triage nurse I'd had IVF and she said it was a good thing I'd mentioned that as IVF pregnancies were "special".

After waiting for several hours, I saw a lovely junior doctor who couldn't find any obvious source of the bleeding. I asked if someone could please check the baby's heartbeat and he referred me to a part of the maternity ward where pregnant women come for tests. The maternity ward is open 24/7. After another wait I had an ultrasound scan, which showed a healthy-looking baby and no obvious source of the bleeding.

I hope you're given a scan, Velvete. Bleeding in pregnancy is so upsetting and nerve-wracking.

RowenaDedalus · 24/06/2018 11:30

this happened to me at 11 weeks on a Sunday and I went to A&E who referred me to EPAU. They checked my cervix and asked about any pain etc and because I said I had had some pain on left side, they got someone to do a quick ‘reassurance scan’ which took approx 30 seconds but it was to check that baby was in the right place and not ectopic. They then booked me in for a proper scan the following day. There was no obvious reason for the bleeding and all was well and I am now 25 weeks. I remember how upset I was- I am thinking of you.

Velvete · 24/06/2018 12:46

Hi everyone thank you so much for your comments and support. I got back home about half an hour ago the hospital were amazing, A&E referred me to the EPU and we went there but it was closed but two doctors said they would examine me. A really lovely doctor then came to scan me in between doing Caesarian sections and luckily everything is fine. The baby's heartbeat is 159 and measurements were all fine. The doctor couldn't see any reason for the bleeding, she suggested it could be a slightly irritated cervix but was very reassuring. I'm so grateful to them for scanning me.

Lovely news Velvete.
And lovely to hear you were so well taken care of.

RowenaDedalus · 24/06/2018 13:04

So glad to hear that news.

Cattenberg · 24/06/2018 14:07

Great news, and I'm glad you didn't have to wait until Monday (or later).

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 24/06/2018 14:36

I’m gobsmacked you were in and out of A&E within two hours with a resolution!

I got sent there via my out of hours emergency gp, and was told the gynae emergency team were expecting me, and it still took 8/9 hours. Four of those were just waiting to initially be seen and get a line put in, etc. And I still didn’t get a scan! They sent me home after an examination only for me to haemorrhage again within 20 minutes of being home 🙄

Glad it was a positive outcome x

Velvete · 24/06/2018 15:10

It was the Royal free hospital in Hampstead- I was shocked at how good the service was as well everything was very quick.

That’s exactly the care I got. Feel very lucky now I’ve read this thread and other PPs experiences!
