Maternity tops over leggings. Help!!

I’m 22 weeks pregnant and feeling really frumpy. I’ve got SPD so haven’t been able to get out much and feel like I’ve let myself go a bit. I can’t exercise and feel really fat.
So I’ve booked in a haircut for Monday (I won’t even tell you how long it’s been since I was at the hairdressers), and I’ve bought a hair dye to do at home.

Now I just need some maternity clothes. I’ve tried maternity jeans but I find them so uncomfy and always riding down. I’m going to try and buy a belt to hopefully keep them up (I’ve actually outgrown my belts already??? How does this even happen?!)

BUT I’ve discovered H&M maternity leggings and they are the comfiest clothes I’ve ever worn! But I’m struggling to find tops to wear with them.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I was a size 14 prior to pregnancy but my boobs (which were big to start with) are growing quicker than my belly. I don’t want anything tight because my belly isn’t a proper bump yet, just looks flabby. And I’m so hot all the time I can’t bear anything tight around my boobs or underarms because it makes me sweaty.

Basically I’m going to have to wear a black sack aren’t I?!?! Help me please mumsnetters

Asda do some really cheap 'swing tops'in loads of colours. They're only £4 each and if you plan on breastfeeding they'll be good for that too.

Long oversized cotton shirts (with a belt under your boobs if you want to feel a bit like you’ve got a waist) felt good to me around this time. New look do cheap-but-nice slouchy linen-ish one’s I think (good for breastfeeding too if you’re planning on that as they button).

Also YES re H&M mat leggings. They should be called ‘eternity leggings’. I still wear mine 9 months post partum and back to my pre-baby dress size; they are too comfy!!

Maxi skirts with elasticated waists are good too.

Ooh thank you!

I’ve been having a look around both websites and there’s quite a few options there, and some nice cheap options too Grin
For some reason I was only focusing on maternity clothes, but some loose fitting non-maternity would be fine at the moment and gives me much more choice.

Any other ideas welcome Grin

H&M do over bump mat jeans which are similar to their leggings, by the way. Bit hot while the weathers sweaty but might be better later on.

Loose/stretchy non maternity stuff can be loads better and is usually cheaper and easier to wear after.

milk thanks I need to give myself a kick up the backside and hopefully I’ll feel more myself. I’ve been getting a bit down in the dumps being stuck in.

My maternity jeans are over the bump too, but still ride down. Maybe I need the next size up Blush my ass hasn’t had the memo that the baby is supposed to grow in my belly not my ass Smile think I will try H&M jeans instead.

I will pop over to that board and have a look thanks Smile

Confused my credit card is taking a bit of a battering today, I’ve got about 15 tops in my online basket at the minute!

I’ve jusy ordered a play suit and a jump suit from H&M mama range. I have the same issue as you with jeans and shorts, So I figured that’s at least playsuits and jumpsuits can’t ride down! I was wearing some none maternity playsuits on holiday and they were so comfy, but as bump is growing I definitely now need maternity ones.

Yerp · 23/06/2018 14:55

Ooh jump suits are a good idea I’ll have a look at those too. I’m going to try a pair of H&M maternity jeans too. Do you have to go a size up though?? I think their pants are quite small sizes?

Why isn’t it pay day yet?!

I had much more luck with underbump jeans than over!

Tops I prefer fitted roubd the boobs and then drapey. Will try and find some photos. Most haven’t been maternity tops so I’ve been happy to spend a bit more as I can wear them afterwards and they are still working well with less than a month to go!

RatherFetchingHat · 23/06/2018 15:06

I bought some tops from Evans (They start at a 14) which were loose fitting and long - great in early stages and had enough room for bump as it grew! I didn't get on with maternity tops at all, so got some mat leggings and trousers (Dorothy perkins) and a dress, but all tops were just normal ones.

Icklepickle101 · 23/06/2018 15:09

This kind of thing although I’m not sure that exact one is overly flattering!

Once it cools down a bit and your bump is bigger I felt very comfy in a strapless vest top with an unbuttoned shirt over the top!

I felt a bit frumpy until about 25 weeks and then felt much more comfortable when I actually looked undoubtably pregnant

Maternity tops over leggings. Help!!
Yerp · 23/06/2018 15:17

I will have a look at Evans too thanks rather Smile

ickle I hope that another few weeks and I will look pregnant too rather than just fat and then hopefully feel better. I’ll have a look at tunic type tops too and maybe get a size or two bigger rather than maternity

lidl have great maternity leggings and tops when they do a maternity week. Tops are so comfy

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 23/06/2018 22:35

I'm 22 weeks with DC2 but carrying like I'm at least 30 according to relatives and colleagues who keep helpfully telling me how "huge" I am Hmm
I've found that New Look underbump maternity skinny jeans are the only comfy ones for me. The overbump ones just annoy me. Maternity leggings and jeans are the only actual maternity clothes I've bought. I've been living in stretchy black maxi/midi dresses for work (Boohoo.com have loads and they're really cheap) and maternity jeans/leggings with long floaty tops or swing/smock type dresses (ASOS is good for these) at the weekends. I just tend to go for stretchy or loose fitting things in the next size up from my normal size rather than maternity tops or drrsses which always seem to be so tent-like and unflattering.

Yerp · 24/06/2018 07:04

minister how annoying. Why do people feel it’s ok to comment on size when your pregnant when I’m sure they wouldn’t normally!
I tried an underbump pair of jeans, but I felt like I just had a big muffin top 😂 but maybe now bump is a bit bigger they might be ok.

I’ve definitely decided to avoid maternity tops on the whole and just get a bigger size in normal clothes.

I think it’s fine to comment on others’ size if they comment on yours first. Then act surprised and say “oh; I thought this was a making personal comments conversation”. Wink

Marbles321 · 24/06/2018 11:46

I'm 34 weeks now and for the last few weeks have been living in asos maternity leggings with dresses over the top. I've been able to use some loose summer dresses I already had because it doesn't matter if they come up shorter - with the leggings they look like a long top! Have found I've saved quite a bit of money that way.
