Hi, I'm three months pregnant with twins and I want a c-section. Although I'm a bit worried because everyone in my family is premature (including myself). We were all born one-two months early. So can I have a cesarean planned before the 9 month mark because of the family history? Also, if I went into labour before the planned date, would I still get a c-section and would I be awake for it (because it know emergency you have to be put under) thank you

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can get an earlyish c-section with twins. And if you go early anyway (before planned date) I can't see why you won't be able to be awake still, as emergency c-sections are done under local anesthetic (like mine 5 weeks ago!)

But I would of course get this confirmed by a doctor! Congratulations by the way Flowers Grin

I think you'll need to ask your midwife at next appointment whether they offer csec for twin pregnancy and if so whether they might do so early.
Do you have family history of very quick labour?

What sort of twins are they? I have McDa and would not have been allowed to go past 36 weeks and it was an automatic c section. Dcda they generally want you to go vaginally as close to term as possible.

Mine turned up at 31 weeks so it was irrelevant anyway!

You're not put under for emergency csection routinely, only if it's required for whatever reason. Most women have epidural/spinal for a csection.

No experiance with twins but i am having another planned c section. Consultant has written in my notes on the first page if i go in to labour before c section date then i still can have a c section as that is my wishes. So speak to your consultant and see what they say. Its ultimately your descion normally they are good at respecting that.

If you’re due to have a planned section and you go into labour they will still do the section and normally there would be plenty of time for you to be awake as long as you went to the hospital as soon as you got any signs of early labour

You are only put under general anesthesia for a c section if it's necessary, if it's just because you've gone in to labour before your c section date unless one baby is in distress, they'll give you a spinal.

36-37 weeks is normal for twins to be delivered. If you go in to labour earlier, they'll just give you your c section earlier.

If there's no other reason than twins, you need to start asking for a section now.
