...when I had to throw up in the middle of a lesson. 26 weeks pregnant, is there anything I can do to save my pelvic floor? It's my first!!!

Kegels!

gamerchick · 22/06/2018 16:42

Yep ^^ you should be doing them every day... Now and forever

NCPuffin · 22/06/2018 16:46

Is that where you stop your wee midflow? Or do the same thing when you're not weeing? I'll get back into those! How often should I be doing them? Ironically I was told a few years ago my pelvic floor muscle tone was too high - clearly don't have that problem anymore!

Yes it's clenching the pee stopping muscles essentially. You should do them daily.

Roomba · 22/06/2018 16:53

Of it helps reassure you, I did this once when I threw up during pregnancy. It has never happened since and DS is almost six. So it's not necessarily an ongoing thing! I always mean to do my Kegels and forget, too.

NCPuffin · 22/06/2018 17:00

@Roomba, that's really reassuring, thank you! Having to go back into a classroom with pee dripping down my leg (thank fuck I was wearing a wide skirt) is not an experience I wish to repeat! Doing kegels as we speak!

Look for the NHS squeezy all online, it's great. Also this is quite severe at 26 weeks with your first and I'd suggest going to your gp, you can get a referral for obstetric physio - mine saved my sanity and continence!

Namechange128 · 22/06/2018 17:03

Meant to say - a large % of women don't do levels right (I wasn't), which is also why I'd always recommend the physio over just online.

I'm. 26 weeks and have just started wearing tena pads for peace of mind when at work or our and about. Annoying but it stops me from worrying! I haven't been added dramatic as during a lesson but after I've been to the bathroom I some times have a post wee dribble :(

NCPuffin · 22/06/2018 19:11

Really appreciate the advice! I know it sounds bad for 26 weeks with a first pregnancy, but I was throwing up when it happened - day to day my bladder control seems fine!

I'll check out the app, and I have a GP appointment for something else next week anyway, so I will mention it then.

I use cloth pads and might start wearing those as they're quite comfortable.

I can pee when I throw up if it’s violent enough 😢

Actually interested what you said about having a string pelvic floor before. I did/do too. I think it means the force when I vomit and my core contracts is huge. I also had a relatively easy time pushing ds out so maybe that’s the silver lining.

Just ti reassure you a lot of the women on the hyperemesis thread report wetting themselves when vomiting but not necessarily being affected the rest of the time so don't despair too much!

PeachesandPie · 22/06/2018 19:42

Definitely download the squeezy app from NHS!

Also just to reassure you, I wet myself every day when pregnant from week 12 to 24 as I was so violently sick. No confidence problems any other time and all fine now.
