So I've decided to go on daily walks now I'm coming to the end as I want to get moving ..no not to induce the labour or anything but just because I feel like I have the energy and want to do so but my mum said it will begin to thin my cervix as I haven't been overally active throughout pregnancy so is this true? I am being given a sweep next Thursday due to constant reduced movements ect but wouldn't want to cause early labour myself so she's gotten me a little worried

She is wrong. Walking gets baby into a good position for labour and it is recommended to keep active. I walked for miles and miles with my ds3 he was still late!

Perfect thankyou , I did think she was being abit dramatic ect ...I don't even want to go far just out to enjoy the sun

I was walking the dog the day before I went in for induction at 41.5 weeks

Enjoy your walks. Take a small bottle of water and your mobile phone with you.

Exercise is great in pregnancy. I ran /jogged all the way through mine. Enjoy!

I am 38 weeks and have started to do the same this week as I have started maternity leave. Walking alone won't start labour unless your body is already ready for labour; if it did there would be lots of pregnant women out walking miles! It will encourage the head to engage and the baby into a good position though, which is a good thing.

Walking at 38 weeks plus before my youngest was born was how we found our current house! All the best.

I am a midwife so yes keep walking but yes take water and phone. Perfectly safe and good for you. Walking will not thin your cervix contractions will do that. Good luck with everything and I hope your labour goes well and quickly.

I walked all through my pregnancy. You've left it late Grin I wanted to be healthy for me and the baby. Go for it.

bowgumdrop2018 · 22/06/2018 16:30

@danTDM
Of course I done walking such as around shops and shopping centres ect but I haven't set out on a walk to just walk I've always had a purpose of going out so getting something ect and normally just used the car as it's there 😂
