Anyone else EXHAUSTED in first trimester?

I’m 6 week’s plus 4 and feel overwhelmingly tired. It’s mostly a feeling of tiredness and weakness in my upper body, feeling like I have no energy, and it’s really difficult to work.

I’m wondering how I’ll get through work if I feel like this for another 6 week’s or more (assuming I’ll be less tired in second trimester, all being well).

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you deal with it?

The tiredness didn't get better for me until 16 weeks.

Just make sure you get the midwife or consultant to actually have a look at your blood test results properly, as you will have blood taken at your booking appointment to check for iron deficiency.

AliceRR · 23/06/2018 19:10

My MW appointment is in just over 3 weeks when I will 10 week’s pregnant which seems a bit late as this is the kind of thing I’d want to discuss with her but we’ll see how it goes.

I’m taking the seven seas pregnancy vitamin which has iron in it but probably not loads of the stuff...

I’m 14 weeks now but felt the same between about 5 and 12 weeks. Have a job that’s fairly intense with long hours and a hour-commute each way (including a packed train plus a mile or so walk each way), and that pretty much used up any energy I had. There was one day I got home from work and put on a wash, lay on the sofa and realised I genuinely couldn’t even manage to hang it out. And there was many days where I’d sit on the loo in work with my head in lap and my eyes closed because I was shattered. I dealt with it by going to bed at 9pm (compared to midnight) and by taking it easy at the weekends. But I was surprised by just how tired I was. It has got much better for me and I feel like a different person now!

doleritedinosaur · 23/06/2018 19:46

Yes, I’ve felt even worse this week at 9 weeks this week I think. So frustrating as it’s DC3. Ive been taking more iron & today I felt a lot better than I have done for weeks.

It’s been ridiculous, I didn’t think I could get more tired.

SnuggyBuggy · 23/06/2018 19:55

The constant yawning at my desk was what gave it away to my colleagues Blush

I have just yesterday found out that I'm 5 weeks pregnant and all of a sudden everything makes so much sense. I have been totally wiped for the last week and passing out as soon as I get in from work. Spent most of today sleeping too! I run a business with employees I'm now going to have to train up for while I'm on maternity, so I'm hoping the exhaustation subsides for even a teeny bit throughout the next few months!

Aw12345 · 23/06/2018 21:51

The first trimester is absolutely exhausting. I've never known anything like it! Even 30 hours traveling to Australia was less tiring!

It does get easier I promise, I'm 34 weeks now and no where near as shattered.

Sleep lots, be kind to yourself :-)

Singadream · 23/06/2018 22:02

Are you more exhausted after eating? I was much much more exhausted in third pregnancy than the first two and everyone said it was because I had two other babies to look after but it was after eating carbs which ironically was the only thing to stop the sickness and it turned out to be gestational diabetes. Worth asking for a glucose tolerance test...

MiddlingMum · 23/06/2018 23:05

We made the mistake of going sofa shopping in my first trimester. Every sofa felt amazing - I could have sat happily on concrete all day at that stage. Once we'd decided which to buy, DH went off with the saleswoman to sort payment and delivery. I sat down for a moment and they found me five minutes later fast asleep Blush

MissMarplesKnitting · 23/06/2018 23:09

I was knackered in mine. Absolutely knackered. Bone tired, fall asleep on desk knackered.

Once I got to second trimester I felt bloody fantastic so hopefully you will feel better soon.

But you're making a whole person! It's a very important and tiring thing. Use it as a good excuse for lots of naps.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 24/06/2018 00:00

Yeah i was on 400mg of iron a day, the multi vitamins have 17mg in.

ICJump · 24/06/2018 03:27

I’m shattered I went to bed at 1pm yesterday and got up a 6am today. Coupled with nausea I’m so emotional. I’ve been trying to fit more excerise in as I’m overweight But im struggling. I don’t remember my first two being so hard.

Merrz · 24/06/2018 10:34

Don't want to speak to soon but feel like I've really turned a corner this weekend, feel so much more normal. 10+4 today so fx the worst is past

AliceRR · 24/06/2018 16:55

I will need to find a way to manage better during the week when I’m in the office. I can’t sleep in the day when I’m working. It’s better on the weekends as I simply lie down when I feel like it.I’ve been going to bed early but it’s bit enough. Maybe I just need to lower my expectations 😆

@singadream I haven’t noticed that I’m more tired after eating but willlook our fir that.

I literally just feel exhausted after doing anything... I’ve just had a shower and feel hungry but have had to lie down before I can go and get myself something 🙄

I can totally relate!! Im 6 weeks+5 and am absolutely exhausted all the time and the sickness is unbearable all foods are a turn off at the minute i dread meal times 😐 I am hoping this phase doesn't last too much longer.

Work is so difficult at the moment too. My boss told me how tired I looked the other day so I had to make an excuse that I had been on a late night out the night before because I dont want to tell work until 12 week scan goes okay.

Good luck to all you ladies too x

noseoftralee · 25/06/2018 06:57

Urgh. Monday. I’m so jealous of anyone who can fit in a nap during the day Confused

AliceRR · 25/06/2018 09:22

I have that Monday morning feeling. I’m exhausted and close to throwing up (weirdly don’t actually feel that sick but keep retching)...

On the plus side 7 week’s today 🙂

We can do it ladies!!

I was with my boy. It lasted throughout the second trimester too, for me it was an iron deficiency and taking iron tablets helped me so much. Didn't have any morning sickness, just this exhaustion instead. Get your iron levels checked?

100thousandreasons · 25/06/2018 15:22

Yes, both times. Had no other symptoms, no sickness or anything. Just tired to my very bones.

It passes for me by about 13/14 weeks and doesn't come back. I'm 29 weeks now and just getting to the point where I'm quite tired again but that's normal shit sleep, big and uncomfortable third trimester tiredness. Not the drained horrible tiredness of the first trimester.

Only way to help a little bit is to go to bed super early and lower your standards with housework and the like for a bit until you feel better.

Wowthisisreal · 25/06/2018 18:59

I too am exhausted! Just been away for a relaxing weekend - and boy did I RELAX. Spent most of the time asleep. Felt bad for DH but I guess I must need it?

Dreading going back to work as I seem to need a nap to get through the day at the moment.

noseoftralee · 26/06/2018 07:35

My GP said to me yesterday “pregnant women should aim for 150 mins of exercise per week”

BWAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

Hmm
Aw12345 · 26/06/2018 10:07

@noseoftralee 150 minutes of being AWAKE a week in the first trimester is an achievement if you ask me!! Grin

AliceRR · 26/06/2018 11:23

I have not been very active at all.

DH is asking me to cancel my gym membership!

Absolutely exhausted already at 4+2. In fact was the reason I tested at 4 weeks exactly. Between feeling shattered and bloating something chronic I knew something was changing! Hoping this subsides fairly soon... high pressure job is not mixing well 😴
