I had one about 35 weeks I think, maybe 36. You couldn’t really see anything, the head was down so couldn’t see it!

Katyx3 · 21/06/2018 17:59

I'm hoping they won't be able to see him as he's on the way to the exit 😂
Did they give you a reason why they scanned?
I think mine is due to them saying I had borderline diabetes then saying I don't but still covering themselves?! X

I did, its nice, you don't have to drink lots of water. I did have gestational diabetes and a large baby and small pelvis.

Icklepickle101 · 21/06/2018 18:01

I had one at 37+5 after reduced movements. They checked his size (he was born 12 hours later at 1lb7 more than they said!) as well as placenta function and volume of water. She pointed out what everyone was but you really couldn’t tell and definitely no point in pictures!

ShesABelter · 21/06/2018 18:02

I had one at 36 weeks. One of the stand in midwives thought he was breach, so that was why I had mine.

Thesearmsofmine · 21/06/2018 18:04

I’ve had them at various stages right up to 40 weeks and being in labour. You don’t see too much.

happymummy12345 · 21/06/2018 18:04

I had one at 37 weeks because I was measuring small. I found the picture quite clear. I had a quick look while they were higher up. But the first thing I said before she started was that we didn't know the sex and didn't want to, so could she let us know when it was getting to that area so we could look away, or could she turn the screen. She turned the screen away in plenty of time and gave nothing away regarding sex, which pleased me a lot.

He's been on 10th centille line up until a week and half ago where he is now around 25th (so planning coming home outfit has gone out the window!) the last scan they checked placenta told me to hold my breath and I nearly passed out Envy
I really worry about stillbirth so want him here now!
Deffo won't be asking for a picture haha
Thanks girls xxx

I had one around that stage with DS1. I was monitored for reduced movements and the dr asked if I'd like a sneaky scan. Obviously I said yes.
With DS2 he was breech so I had scans to see if he was moving around.

Katyx3 · 21/06/2018 18:06

@happymummy12345 what did you have 😍
Proper proud of people that don't find out, no way on earth I could do that lol x

I just had one at 37+4 as Midwife had houghtbhe might be breech. He’s not :) I saw a bit of various body parts and his face a little bit. They measured his legs, head etc and are all bang on for his gestation. Also they said he was 6lb 13 but I know that’s an estimate.

bandbsmummy · 21/06/2018 18:14

I had one at 41 weeks, the afternoon before DD was born as I was in early labour and her heart rate was dropping when they hooked us up to the monitors. Scans showed she was measuring small but she came naturally a few hours later, perfect size, perfect health.

lifechangesforever · 21/06/2018 18:20

I'm having one tomorrow at 36+2 because of a couple of scares this week with preeclampsia symptoms and reduced movements.

I'm keen to see if she's really as big as they say she is (measuring at 38+2) and check her position because midwives have been unsure!

Tonicwaterandgin · 21/06/2018 18:22

I had one about 36 weeks as I had cholestasis, I couldn't make anything out really but they are always reassuring!

Katyx3 · 21/06/2018 22:20

Well I've just done my blood sugars (told to just do a few readings every so often to monitor as was diagnosed then discharged as levels not likely to get higher) n I got a reading of 9 which is my highest yet, bit concerned and going to ring them in morning :( so maybe scan will be sooner lol
Any one any experience please? X

I had one in labour because my daughter was only then discovered to be breech. The registrar came in with a portable scanner. I'd have been 41+5 at the time.

Good luck tomorrow, Katy. You're right to get that checked.

3DSpex · 21/06/2018 22:27

I had one at 37 weeks due to obstetric cholestasis and reduced movements. I couldn’t make muc out, really, although the sonography said he could clearly see what I was having if I wanted to know (I didn’t!).

She was born 5 days later Grin

Katyx3 · 21/06/2018 22:29

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g wow could they see anything? Never heard of that happening before!
I have an app with the consultant after the scan so likely they will just tell me to wait for that when I phone, just worries me a bit as I felt so positive about not have the diabetes thing now I'm disappointed! Just want baby out as safe as possible. FTM problems ay lol
Thank you x

@3DSpex hats off to you not finding out! Guess it's all bum in the air at the end so they get a good shot lol x

There's always a scan at 40 weeks where I am and I had scans every couple of weeks with DS2 until he was induced at 37 weeks. He was bobbing along the bottom centiles too.

You don't see much the way you can in earlier scans, they can check the heart, placenta and head and the flow of blood along the cord.

PaintBySticker · 21/06/2018 22:34

Yes. Found out had gestational diabetes late in pregnancy so had growth scans at 36 no 38 weeks. What makes you feel uncomfortable about it? It’s a scam the same as the others. You can’t (or couldn’t) get a photo at that stage as the baby is too big.

In my case it identified a concern with the pregnancy. I was inducted (didn’t work) and then had a caesarean. On balance I’m glad I had that scan. Maybe all would have been fine without the scan but maybe it wouldn’t.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 21/06/2018 22:36

36 week scan as routine for everyone at the hospital where I had DS1 (research hospital). Scan at 37ish weeks for DS2 (pre-c section; not sure what the aim was! Just part of the pre-op stuff). Pretty normal practise and not much to see.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/06/2018 22:37

Yes, Katy, the registrar was able to confirm she was breech, get a better idea of her position and also a good estimate of her size (9lbs!) and then he went off to relay all that to the consultant, who was not in the hospital at the time (Saturday morning) and decide what to do next. So it was very useful. This was 26 years ago, though, so the technology has probably moved on.

SemperIdem · 21/06/2018 22:40

I had one at 38+2, for growth concerns too. Have a great scan photo of my daughters face, her profile was very much more “real baby” than it had been at 20 weeks! She looked like Baby Terminator in that one.

Hope all goes well.

BertrandRussell · 21/06/2018 22:53

They laughed at me because I was so absolutely sure I could see a willy and kept saying "Look, there it is- definitely a boy!" Dd was born a couple of days later.....
