Who's done it? What was it like? Did it affect your pregnancy? Or would you just not do it?

Holiday of a lifetime booked for August, lots of family going. Don't want to back out as I need this holiday haha.

I've just done it 7 hours to USA. It was fine. Absolutely no reason why not to do it! I got a bit nauseaus but I get that sitting on the sofa. Also tried to go for little walks and stretches every hour or two just to keep blood pumping

I flew long haul (Canada) at 10 weeks and had no problems. Just make sure you wear those flight socks, drink plenty and if you can get a seat by the aisle for toilet breaks or just to move about.
My midwife also advised me to take my notes with me just in case of an emergency.
Hope that helps!

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 19/06/2018 20:41

I did it. 9 hours to Canada. Mind you, I didn’t know I was pregnant at the time.

TroubledLichen · 19/06/2018 20:48

It’s impossible to predict how you might be feeling, you might be fine, you might be really sick. I cancelled a holiday during my first trimester as I couldn’t have even made it to the airport with throwing up and I was too weak to do anything. But obviously that’s not everyone’s experience.

I flew NZ to UK at 31 weeks, the cut off point for emirates so just made it. I was totally fine, actually enjoyed it. Sitting down for 30 hours and having meals brought to me. They gave me a 2L bottle of water so I didn't have to keep asking for drinks

bargainbin · 19/06/2018 20:50

Apologies. Thought your title said 'third' trimester.

Emz2019 · 19/06/2018 21:00

I did and it was fine except I needed to pee a lot and I hate walking around on planes lol

pitterpatterrain · 19/06/2018 21:02

It’s fine, I had to fly a lot for work up to 30 weeks including a bunch of longhauls

Get support stockings can be good

Also don’t wear to much if you tend to get faint / breathless

Buy more water to take on with you after security

Flew UK Aus then back to UK. What's meant to be the issue Confused

I flew to Cuba at 11 weeks - also holiday of a lifetime. Took my notes too, and had checked with GP beforehand.

Waking frequently, lots of water, comfortable clothes and flight socks, DH as pack mule for luggage.

In Cuba, had a few cereal bars for each day and at least 1 cup a soup per day also (brought in luggage - there are much better options available nowadays if you are unsure of your destination), in case I couldn’t trust food (was a few years back and they had shortages), lived mostly on bread and bananas in the AI on the beach week, with energy bars and a soup daily (could use the coffee pot in the room to heat water). In Havana, choice was limited but there was more hot food to order (rather than unrecognizable buffet items out for hours in AI resort) so I could have a proper dinner.

‘‘Twas grand. Was able to swim, snorkel, gentle kayaking etc and just relax. Much needed holiday and also really interesting culturally (before Fidel left office).

I did lots more flying before the 32 week cut off (flew home from last trip at 32+3😉) and it was all fine.

Except bursting into tears as that last flight lifted off, which was a hormones thing knowing I wouldn’t be back like that for many years and not great when sitting next to a senior stakeholder - who was a grandad luckily so understood female tendencies at that stage of the process!

I did America for work at 10 weeks two flights over 10 hours was tough and jet lag made my morning sickness horrendous. If yours is a holiday hopefully you will have time to relax make sure you drink lots of fluids on plane

Cakelaur · 19/06/2018 21:21

I did 24 hours to Mauritius in April. I was 7/8 weeks. It was a bit uncomfortable but no problems. I made sure I drank loads and wore the dvt socks. Enjoy. (Just make sure it's not a zika country)

Baby2018 · 19/06/2018 21:25

I flew 14 hours in the first trimester, I didnt know I was pregnant but the baby is totally fine I think its the best time to travel just drink a good amount of water and stretch your legs, enjoy!

Hideandgo · 19/06/2018 21:25

The only problem is sickness. I find flying exasperates the sickness.

Sunshineworshipper · 19/06/2018 21:29

@biddypop I loved your response haha!! Sounds like you had a fab time. I never thought about cuppa soups. So thank you :)

@cakelaur thank you, something I hadn't thought of also. Glad I asked now :)

Thanks everyone. Glad everyone has been happy and healthy travellers

@hideandgo that is my concern actually, although my gp did say they could give me cyclizine

Thetimehascometo · 19/06/2018 21:31

I did Australia and back at around 12 weeks. Had a little bleed both ways but who knows what that is all about, currently sat cuddling my 3 week old 😍

Hideandgo · 19/06/2018 21:35

It would be fine though, you just sit there feeling crap, try to sleep and then you arrive. Not majorly different than being sick at home really. I’m not a huge fan of Cyclizine. I took it on my most recent pregnancy having suffered terribly through the previous 3 and though it took the edge off slightly, it totally spaced me out.

@thetimehascometo awww blessFlowers

I flew to Vietnam at 10 weeks. Fabulous, relaxing time. I joke that the holiday is the reason my daughter is so chilled out. I would definitely go. Be sensible, follow advice, and enjoy!

Sunshineworshipper · 19/06/2018 21:40

@hideandgo yep, I know, most of them zonk me too.
