FTM - 28+3 - pregnancy serious sucks! A rant

You know when you hear about all these symptoms and ailments and go "but no one has all of them, surely?" - yeaaaah - that was naive pre-pregnancy me.

TL;DR - in which OP suffers morning sickness, spotting around week 10, anxiety, norovirus, overheating, sprained rib, cracked rib, pelvic girdle pain and gestational diabetes.

It all started off so well. DH (34) and me (33) got married and bought a big family house together last July.

December, we decided to TTC.

December 31 we get a BFP - whoop!

A week later and my boobs were on fire! Like serious ow! Over the next ten days I went from a 34 J to a 36 KK/ L.

From mid-Jan I have horrendous all day nausea. I can;t even look at anything dairy without gagging. I throw-up at least two or three times a day.

Idiot me, books in for an early private scan because I'm so excited and impatient ... which was far from reassuring. At 7 weeks they said there was only a sac. My dates must be waaay off, or I'd had a MMC. I cried and soldiered through expecting the worst. 10 weeks in I get brown discharge with what looks like uterine lining/ tissue. I'm besides myself. My GP books me in to the EPU but I have to wait a week.

DH and I go to EPU. Expecting the worst (thanks to early private scan fears). But it's all okay! There's a wiggly active baby! And 4 days ahead of schedule. So we literally conceived the first time we did the dirty.

All seems good. At 12 week scan (12+5 days) and my morning sickness seems to have subsided. All tests look good.

Week 13. DH and I get norovirus. Me, while enroute to my aunts funeral. This was so totally unfun I cannot describe!

After a week of throwing up/ diarrhea. Things start to look better. We go on honeymoon to Japan and Hong Kong weeks 16 - 19. I have problems with overheating and keeping my electrolytes balanced but otherwise good. We walk 25k to 30k steps a day. That was the brief bit of second trimester energy I had. It all went downhill from there.

I get back to the office. And I hurt. They order me some additional back support. I ache all down my left side. Really hurt. GP and midwife say sprained rib. It happens easily because of all the relaxin and growing baby (I'm short, and very short of torso). Work from home a few days... then week 22 and we have to go to the big work death-by-powerpoint day. After a 2hr powerpoint stint in uncomfortable chairs I sat and chilled. I hurt. We get on the coach back to the office. I go to move my handbag to make room for anyone else wanting to sit in the front seats... it falls... I lean down to pick it up and CRACK. Go to A&E. I've cracked the already sprained rib.

Brill!

I start getting really, really tired and thirsty around week 24. I also ache everywhere. Midwife sorts out physio referral (Surprise - you have pelvic girdle pain!).

Week 26. I notice I've lost weight. Which isn't really expected at this point. Sugar shows in urine. I ask midwife to sort out GD test.

The next couple of weeks are a blurred mix of pain, discomfort, extreme tiredness, giddiness, nausea, tingling toes and weight loss.

Week 28 (last Friday) I have the GD test. Yup I am diabetic too. Weight loss since 24 weeks currently standing at 13lbs.

Please say there's nothing more pregnancy can send my way? I hurt and feel sick and I'm permanently exhausted and weak. I just want to meet my baby and for him to be healthy. Is that too much to ask?

Have you got to acid reflux yet? Xx

GemmaLL · 18/06/2018 18:05

Wow how awful, sorry you're going through this Flowers
I am 34wks and started struggling with hip and back pain - pales in comparison to what you've gone/going though. I hope you feel better soon.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 18/06/2018 18:07

Sorry you are having such a hard time!

Things to look forward to are reflux and i digestion and potential for gallstones Hmm

Bibijayne · 18/06/2018 18:10

I've just started getting heartburn. I have gaviscon on standby in my handbag. I've also started getting really itchy!

Oh, and sneezing is a totally perilous activity!

Thanks for the sympathy guys!

Sounds exactly like me, although they couldn't confirm the rib was cracked!
I'm 37 weeks now, unfortunately nothing has got better (I won't go in to detail I know it won't help) but put it this way I was sick this morning and there was blood in it! Because 32 weeks of sickness obviously hasn't been enough!
If you are starting with reflux go to gp and request omprazole, gaviscon won't cut it and it's expensive.
Otherwise, congratulations 😎😘 x

Katyx3 · 18/06/2018 18:15

Oh and itchy soles of feet and palms of hands can be sign of pre eclampsia so please keep an eye on that too x

SomeKnobend · 18/06/2018 18:15

Oh poor you! Erm, there's still time for restless leg syndrome, trapped wind and some mild incontinence! Not to mention thrush... Um, so good luck with that. Sympathy x

Yep sounds par for the course. I didn't do pregnancy well with either of my 2 DDs. First pregnancy morning sickness until 15 weeks then sugar in urine so numerous glucose tolerance tests to rule out diabetes and to top it off pregnancy induced hypertension. Second pregnancy ultrasound showed ovarian cyst at 12 weeks so ovarectomy. 3 glucose tolerance tests again and pregnancy induced hypertension and induction at 36 weeks. Three separate hospital stays over weeks 12 to week 36 when I was induced.

You will forget it once baby arrives though otherwise no one would ever have more than one baby.

Fakingit36 · 18/06/2018 18:39

Poor you. I have had GD as well and I recommend looking up Gestational Diabetes Support group on Facebook. It’s a huge group of women all going through the same thing - helps with the blues that come with it, food ideas/tricks and learning about GD (which is kind of a mysterious condition as you are discovering). As we say in the states, you got this mama!

Havetothink · 18/06/2018 18:50

Oh and leg cramps, praying I don't get them this time.

Cat12321 · 18/06/2018 19:30

SPD got me bad.

Also, no stretch marks until 36w and was covered overnight.

Don't forget about the afterbirth pains Wink

Bibijayne · 18/06/2018 21:37

Thanks everyone! Great tips on the reflux. And I'll keep an eye on the itching... Just about the only thing that seems to be consistently good is my blood pressure.

Ergh - leg cramps. I've started getting them at night. Fortunately I'm not constipated! I guess that's something ;)

This little boy is going to have some serious snuggling to do when he arrives! :)

Leg cramps - eat something salty (if you can stomach it!) before bed. Helped me massively.

XxXemma · 18/06/2018 23:08

Oh Jesus you poor lady! My pregnancy was so smooth I'm hoping my next would be the same I don't think I could hack everything that you've been through!! I hope your blessed with an easy & quick labour to balance out your rough pregnancy!! :(

Bibijayne · 19/06/2018 15:13

Thanks :)

I was totally unprepared. My mum had three really smooth pregnancies... I just assumed I'd be like her. Alas not.

Mini update. 29+6 and I've just been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis. Because of course! It's not even a related pregnancy complication to the others :/

I'm starting to wonder if my body and baby read some sort of list of pregnancy symptoms and decided it was like Pokémon... Gotta get them all!

At least I'm signed off work until mat leave starts. Baby boy is thriving. It's just me that's getting my ass kicked!
