If you work full time when did you go on maternity leave?

I’d originally told my employer I’d work until 2 weeks before due date. Oh how naive I was, I’m 21 weeks but find some days I’m struggling as it can be fairly physical some days as I travel around to lots of different locations and have lots of equipment to lug around and get in and out the car.

I think now I’d like to go 4 weeks before due date but again this could change. I suspect if my job was based at a desk it would be much easier for me!

I’m just interested to see when other people did?

I have got some annual leave to use up before my mat leave starts.
My last day at work is 35 weeks but my mat leave starts at just before 39 weeks.

I have a desk job with short commute, currently 24 weeks and I cannot wait to finish work

I have a job that is travelling about and carrying things a lot. Towards the end I just took the basics needed and limited driving as much as possible. I finished at 36.3 weeks and this was only because it was Xmas so I thought it'd be a good time to finish. I went over by 9 days and wish I'd stayed at work longer as I was bored to tears but everyone is different and only you know how you're coping.

I left at 36 weeks this time, using 4 weeks of annual leave and then my mat leave starts on my due date!

I worked to 38 weeks and 4 days, I was originally working to 40 but they decided to induce at 39 weeks so I finished on the Friday and had an induction on the Monday, I was lucky as pregnancy was smooth and I have a mainly desk job in private healthcare

38 weeks with no.1 and 37 with no.2 as it was the start of the schools hols so easier than finding childcare. Although, my husband and I have our own business and there is only one of me so I needed as Much time at work as poss. Also not a manual job so much easier!

Icklepickle101 · 18/06/2018 08:19

37 weeks with my first. Had planned to finish at 36 weeks this time but was signed off at 29 weeks and have been very bored ever since!

BiddyPop · 18/06/2018 08:23

I finished at exactly 38 weeks by my dates (dr kept changing his - dd statues to arrive on mine but didn’t quite emerge u til early the following morning😉).

I had a desk job, I had an easy pg once I got to 14 weeks and wasn’t queasy anymore. I did of yoga all the way through and walked a lot. And while the job was stressful, the people were nice and tried to lessen the load where they could. Like my boss letting me leave 20 mins early once a week for my class (I came back some weeks when we were very busy but he was conscious of lots of extra time I generally did so gave me that leeway).

And while I commuted by bus at that point, dh took to driving again when I got very big (maybe 30 weeks?) so I only had a few bus journeys to contend with an could sleep going home a lot of evenings.

I left at around 34 weeks, I used 4 1/2 weeks of holiday before starting maternity leave though.

I have a job where I'm on my feet all day and running up and down stairs to get patient records is commonplace, so combined with SPD and a hot summer I was in a pretty bad way towards the end. I had to stop parts of my job due to the issues and became very bored, so I'm glad I left when I did.

kirinm · 18/06/2018 09:04

I'm aiming to leave at 36 weeks - maternity leave starting at 38 weeks with 2 weeks annual leave. I've got a desk job but it is high stress and work aren't trying to reduce my workload so if it stays at this level of intensity I may leave earlier.

I work in healthcare and planned to finished at 35 weeks. However because I am bank nurse (zero hour contract) wards were refusing to have me bevause they didn't want to be liable if something happened so ended up finishing over a week ago at 32 weeks. My aches and pains have all but gone and my feet and legs haven't swollen since being off but I am bored already 😧

mintich · 19/06/2018 10:03

Stopped at 32 weeks last time and will stop then this time round too. I travel for my job so a lot of trains, driving and walking. Just too uncomfortable past 32 weeks.

Noboozeforme · 19/06/2018 10:38

I work with teenagers in care and they were so lovely with me. I also had a really easy pregnancy. Left 2 days before my planned induction (at 37 weeks).

Thegirlhasnoname · 19/06/2018 12:26

I’m planning on maternity leave starting officially at 38 weeks but have annual leave to use before hand so will be finishing at 34+5... but 35 for ease of saying it!

flamingofridays · 19/06/2018 12:29

38 week. Desk job. not much walking about which was good because I had spd by that point!

would possibly go earlier if I could have my time again!

Wellthisunexpected · 19/06/2018 13:20

I planned to go at 39 weeks with DS, but take annual leave for 2 weeks first, so 37 weeks. He was delivered at 37+6! I'm going at 37 this time, but taking leave from 35 weeks.

coastalchick · 19/06/2018 13:24

Due to finish at 37+3 and then have 2.5 weeks annual leave before ML starts on due date.

Have used holiday to work 3 day weeks (usually only work 4 days anyway) from 23 July so a nice wind down hopefully!

Have saved all my easy admin tasks for the final month when I’m even more knackered and grumpy and trying to get through the stuff requiring actual brain power before then!

Aw12345 · 19/06/2018 13:55

37 weeks I'm going off... Am 33 weeks now and absolutely cannot wait to end work!! Shattered and struggling :-( depends from person to person though... I do 11 hour shifts on my feet all day so may be different if it was a desk job :-)
