Pains while straining (Poo thread!)

Hi all,

I'm 17+5, and I've just tried to go for a number 2, and i wasn't straining hard at all, just the normal amount as I felt the urge to go. But as soon as I bear down 1 bit, I have an sharp pain in my lower tummy (not sure if uterus or my bowels) so I've had to give up and am laying in the bath instead.

I've not got any pains when I don't bear down, so I'm not overly concerned. But has anyone else had this/knows the reason why ?

I'm guessing it's cos the past week or so I have 'popped' and there's a lot of growth going on so muscles in there are very overworked?? I dunno haha

Try not to strain as it will hurt your belly and CAN irritate your muscles (I spotted brown blood after straining).

Maybe get a stool softner like laxido to help out as constipation is a pain in the ass and you defo don't want a fissure

@gryffen I said I didn't strain, just using the normal amount of muscles needed to go for a number 2, as it doesn't just fall out does it lol

Eat some fig biscuits. There food for u. Or try some prune juice. It tastes like crap but you will certainly be able to go lol x

Okay thanks for the replies guys but you're completely missing my point.

I am not constipated or struggling to poo. I am saying that AS SOON AS I put any type of pressure on my muscles down below to go to the loo, it hurts. I'm sure that no ones ooo just falls out without any type of pushing ??

To be fair the title of your post says "while straining" which is an odd thing to say if you aren't straining. If your stools are soft and you truly need to go then I don't really think any real muscle effort is required and definitely none to the extent that pain should be caused. If this isn't the case then I would suggest seeing your GP.

I don't strain to go to the loo. If I have the urge to go but it isn't coming it isn't coming, though I often have to return to the toilet within 10 minutes to actually go. It does help at the moment I'm craving a lot of fruit.

As the PPs said if you are actually straining then either try eating prunes or anything else that helps to make you go, otherwise go to the doctor as if you strain you risk hurting yourself.

i give up lol thanks for the replies but i said time and time again im not straining. Poo doesn't just fall out!! as soon as i try to poo it hurts, im barely using any pressure at all.

Actually it can if you fart and follow through.

I get what you’re saying, sometimes when I go for a #2 (got the feeling I need to go no constipation!) it hurts my tummy muscles mostly on the sides afterwards. It could be the round ligaments you’re irritating as you go? Might be worth speaking to your midwife about it

Mayah · 18/06/2018 11:47

I know exactly what you mean, except mine wasn't poo, I was simply weeing and as my bladder emptied I got this insane pain where I imagine my ovaries are or that area. I was in pain for a good minute or 2 before it passed. No straining of any sort, it just happened. I assumed it would be growing pains as I'm 20 weeks and I've just started showing.

SendYouUpinFlames · 18/06/2018 13:34

OP could it be pressure on your lower muscles from baby growing?
