Healthy snacks while pregnant

I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I’m really struggling with hunger and nausea. Whenever I get hungry if I’m not quick enough to eat something I start to feel really sick and get cramps in my stomach. Has anyone got any healthy snack ideas as I don’t want to be the size of a house by the time I get to 9 months 🤣 something I can take to work that isn’t to fiddly to put together? Any suggestions are greatly welcomed! Currently munching celery sticks and hummus

Grapes as a snack 🍇

Only carbs would cut it for me at that stage - packs of oatcakes and rice cakes in every bag, in the car, in my desk. Boring but did the job and requires no effort.

I lived on rice cakes and ice the first 14 weeks 😊

At that point I was on my beige diet. If it wasn't beige, I wasn't interested. Fruit, veg, meat all turned my stomach. It improved after about 14 weeks so I made up for it then with a much healthier diet.

I walked around with some of those belvita biscuits in my bag and nibbled fairly constantly to stave off nausea, including through my booking in.

I ate a lot of rich tea biscuits as they're nice and plain and quite low in cals and sugar so you don't have to worry much about excess cals there.
I wouldn't recommend any fruits as anything acidic and high in sugar on your empty tummy just made me throw up as it reacts with your stomach acid. But you have to try and see what you can handle as everyone's different xx

For the first 22 weeks I was just glad if something stayed down! I tried to snack on rich tea biscuits, clementines, blueberries, rice cakes, crackers and cashew nuts.

My go to snacks were yoghurts, crackers with cheese or houmous and bevita breakfast bars in the first trimester :)

Breadsticks are good. If you can manage to keep them down that baby corn that comes out of a tin also healthy. I'm having a lot of cruidtes with humous at the moment. I prepare them a day or two in advance for work lunches, nice quick and easy to grab when you're hungry and can make up to 3 of your 5 a day if you do cucumber, peppers and baby corn to dip.

Very jealous that you’re able to stomach fruit! It was all carbs for me 😂

Recently I’ve been enjoying mango and strawberries though. I suggest fruit to curb any sweet cravings or veggie sticks otherwise :)

If you get morning sickness though, don’t feel obliged to eat healthy. Just eat whatever stays down!

InDreamland · 17/06/2018 20:34

Ginger nut biscuits help with nausea.

Thank you all so much!!! Your suggestions are great 👍🏻 I’ve gone off really synthetic sweet stuff at the moment, such as ice cream, sweets and chocolate. But savoury stuff I can eat and eat 😳 I was thinking rice cakes and I need to get some decaf tea bags as I’m really craving cups of tea but due to the caffeine limits I’m only having one cup a day and that’s first thing in the morning. I’m also trying to up my fibre as constipation is a new symptom, sorry tmi lol!

Have you tried oat granola with yoghurt? I have a vanilla alpro one on mine .....very good for fibre I find.

Flamingo84 · 17/06/2018 21:23

Carbs are great in the beginning to curb the hunger-nausea. Be careful not to add too much fruit/veg into your diet too quickly if you’re not used to it. I did this and gave myself diarrhoea!
Also apples, cabbage and broccoli can give you gas and trapped wind which is ridiculously painful, so eat in moderation! These are things I wish I’d known at the start.

StyleOfTheTimes · 17/06/2018 21:40

Yea, I’ve been eating plain oats and plain Greek yoghurt for breakfast. Don’t really want lots of strong tastes first thing in the morning.

Rich tea biscuits were recommended to me for the reasons someone else has given and really helped settle my tummy.
