Sciatica and grumpy work place

Hey ladies, but if advice really..

I'm 31 weeks pregnant.. Today while at work (I finish at 6) I've had sciatica kick in pretty bad I've pushed through it and am currently sitting doing my paper work for the day now but I'm meant to be on another 10 hour shift tomorrow, if this gets any worse I honestly don't think I can go in but my bosses get so grumpy and funny about things (had to leave work a couple times to go go MAU for very valid reasons and lucky I did too) and had 1 day off this pregnancy due to sciatica around 2 months ago. I'm just not sure if I should just try and work through the pain or just stuff them and call in sick? And face them Wednesday when I'm next in (I work full time and always work hard so hate the fact they go funny with me) thanks in advance! And sorry for the rant! X

Call in sick.

I forced myself in to work when I had hyperemesis because my boss was grumpy, constantly making sly remarks about pregnancy not being an illness, about other pregnant women coping much better than me, about how I was overreacting etc etc etc... was a stupid mistake of mine to keep going into work.

If your boss is being grumpy about it then you have to stand up for yourself :-) as my husband said... they don't have my interests at heart so why should I have their interests at heart?

Take care of yourself and your baby :-)

Thanks for the reply @Aw12345 !

No way, that's exactly the same thing I get. Awful isn't it 😩 I get compared to another employee and her pregnancy and just how much she did, but no pregnancy is the same. I work in care none of us have an easy job it's very strenuous but that's very true what your hubby says! They don't have our best interest at heart do they. I had to leave work to go to MAU a couple of weeks ago due to high blood pressure and they had a good moan about that until they found out that there was a reason for the nose bleeds and dizzy spells.

I just worry that they'll try and make work even harder for me but you're right, I need to stand up for myself.

Was your boss okay with you in the end over being off?

No my boss was a knob the whole way through to be honest, I got in touch with HR in the end. They removed him because his comments were really horrible and basically pregnancy discrimination at times. He said that they he was going to cancel my sick pay "because I wasn't sick, I was pregnant and thats not an illness" (at this point I was hospitalised with severe vomiting), said I was attention seeking, that I was "wasting work time" by vomiting into a bin Hmm, that I was useless now I'm pregnant etc etc etc. I know how you feel, I hated going into work. Much better now I have a nice boss again Smile

It's good you went to the MAU, with those symptoms you had to go. Are you and baby ok now? I'm similar stage to you, 33 weeks. When are you going on mat leave?

Wow 😮 what a class a bell end! There's making digs and then there's just out right being vile! So glad you have a nice boss now and not that tool! Swear they think pregnancy is a breeze 🙄

Oh I know I'm so glad I went in, I did 5 hours at work and it just got too much and I told them I was leaving I didn't even ask and so lucky I did. How are you getting in in your pregnancy other than that? And I don't go on for another 5 weeks. I wish I would afford to go off sooner but needs must! What about you? Smile

If you’re really struggling go and see your GP. I went to see them on two separate occasions about insomnia and SPD. It sort of seemed like because they can’t give you anything, standard response is, “I think we should just sign you off for a week or two.”

Once you have a sick note, there’s nothing your boss can do and it might force him to take things more seriously.
